I.
Everything was white. The snow that fell from the sky the night before covered the ground in fluffy layers. The branches on trees hung low, burdened by the weight of the heavy snow resting on top of them. Every now and then, a branch would give in and drop the snow onto the ground below.
Icicles varying in all sizes hung from every available spot. Some precariously hung over doorways to houses while others stuck to park benches. They were a perilous, yet beautiful sight for all to enjoy.
II.
The cold nipped at your skin and the wind sent shivers down your spine. It was a frigid winter's day; one you felt even under all the layers of clothing you wore. Every breath you took was visible in the frosty air. You raised a gloved hand and pulled your scarf up to cover your cold lips.
The boy standing beside you didn't seem phased by the brisk weather. All he wore was a winter jacket. His hands and face were exposed to the cold, but it didn't seem to affect him. He walked side by side with you, his hand clasped around your gloved one. The snow crunched with every step the two of you took.
III.
As you walked with Shoto, you wrapped both arms around just one of his, clinging close to him. Even in this freezing weather, the heat radiated from his body was enough to keep you warm. His body heat managed to keep him warm it even the most frigid conditions. It was an odd quirk of his, but one that you loved about him. It made you feel as if he could shield you from anything.
Looking down on you, he placed a warm kiss on your exposed forehead. Just the touch of his lips alone sent a rush of warmth to your face, but you couldn't quite tell if it was because of him or caused by yourself becoming flustered. Perhaps it was a little bit of both.
You stopped walking, suddenly distracted by loud sounds. Turning your head, you noticed children in the distance playing in the snow. A few raced their sleds down the hill and some built snowmen or had a snowball fight with each other. Either way, they were all having fun in the snow.
IV.
It didn't take long for Shoto to notice that you had fallen behind. A smile formed on his face when he turned to find you staring at the children playing amongst each other. That smile of his quickly disappeared when a gust of wind blew past. It whipped at your [hair length], [hair color] hair and forced you to fold your arms in an attempt to provide some heat for yourself. Even from the distance he was at, he could hear your teeth begin to chatter.
"Let's go, [name]," he said, snapping you out of your daze. "I think we've been out here long enough. You're freezing."
He turned his back to you, expecting you to follow him right away, but you had a different idea in mind. Bending down, you gathered a lump of snow into your gloved hands and packed it tightly into a ball before throwing it straight at him. For a split second, you were worried the snowball wouldn't hit him. A proud smile crossed your face when it collided with his back, causing him to stop in his tracks. He froze as if trying to process what just happened. He slowly turned around and shot you a look, not even having to ask to know it was your doing.
"Very funny," he said monotonously, but he found it difficult to keep a straight face. The smile he was trying so hard to conceal was pulling on his lips.
"Let's have a snowball fight, Shoto!" you exclaimed. Bending down, you gathered more snow and packed it tightly in your hands.
"Maybe another day-"
You didn't give him the opportunity to finish the sentence. The snowball already flew out of your hand and collided with your chest. He blinked before slowly looking down at the snow that clung to his jacket.
V.
Grabbing more snow, you were too distracted to even notice that he was doing the same. When you reached out an arm to gather more snow, the last thing you expected was getting hit by Shoto's own snowball. The force of the hit knocked you back into the snow. You stared up at him, awestruck by his actions.
"What's the matter, [name]? Don't want to play anymore?" he teased.
"You wish."
You threw the snowball in your hand at him but he was expecting it. He was able to swiftly dodge it and grab more snow. While he did so, you scrambled to your feet and attempted to run for cover. Before you could so much as take one step, he chucked another snowball which hit the back of your head. You squealed at impact, both excited and freezing from the pieces of melted snow trickling down the back of your neck.
You managed to duck behind a tree which shielded you from his next attack. Sticking your head out, you quickly scanned the perimeter to find where he was located. He was nowhere in sight. You heard it before you saw it. A whistling sound in the air alerted you of another airborne snowball heading straight towards you. You quickly pulled your head back, the snowball colliding into the bark where your head once was.
VI.
This snowball fight lasted just over an hour. After finally dodging one too many snowballs, the exhaustion finally hit you. You allowed yourself to fall back into the snow where you stared up at the sky. More snowflakes fell from the sky, each one tickling your face upon touch. It was a beautiful sight - one that you enjoyed even more laying down.
You were so absorbed with the sky that you barely even noticed when Shoto laid down beside you. Unlike you, his attention was focussed on the sky. The boy with mismatched eye colors stared at you with a content smile on his face. He always enjoyed your company. No words even needed to be spoken during his time with you. Just looking at you made him happy.
Leaning over, he placed his hand in the snow beside your head to balance himself before connecting his lips with yours. You happily accepted the kiss while tilting your face up and resting your hand on the back of his head. Several seconds passed by before the two of you finally pulled apart. He continued to kneel above you with his face only inches away from yours, the only thing separating you two was each other's visible breath.
VII.
"I...I love you, [name]," he said hesitantly, almost as if he was afraid to utter those words. A gasp made its way past your mouth before you were given the chance to stop it. Exchanging words like that had always been a common thing for most couples, just not for you and him. Shoto was better at expressing his emotions through actions - not words. This was a surprise you would've never expected.
"I love you, too, Shoto," you replied, tears brimming in your eyes.
At that moment, nothing could distract you. Not the children playing, the snow falling, or even the frigid air.
All you noticed was the multi colored-haired man staring down at you with such love and affection.
