Jealousy. That's all Shigaraki felt. As much as he tried to withhold his feelings, the immense envy he felt only grew and grew until it was the only thing on his mind. He knew there was no reason to be mad at you. After all, it was his idea in the first place for you to infiltrate U.A. High as a student in order to get close to All Might.
It seemed like a foolproof plan; as long as you played your part nothing could possibly go wrong. Never once did he take into consideration, though, that you would play your part too well. It was your idea - not his - to get close to the other students and to make them trust you. To both yours and his surprise, they even considered you a friend. His worst fear was that the feeling was mutual.
The clock had just struck midnight and you still weren't back at the hideout. He never even got to see you that whole day. You left early for school and just as it was almost time for you to arrive back home, you merely left him a voicemail telling him that the other students were dragging you out and that you wouldn't be home until late at night.
His anger and envy only grew and grew each minute he waited for you to come back. He couldn't even sleep he was so worried. Different scenarios played through in his mind. What happened if the students discovered your secret and they captured you? What happened if you slipped up in front of them and accidentally revealed the plan? What happened if you enjoyed their friendship so much that you decided to abandon the plan and Shigaraki himself...?
The door suddenly opened, snapping him out of his thoughts before he could linger on them any longer. Dark circles resided under your eyes, exhaustion all too visible on your features from the long and tiring day you had. You were startled to see Shigaraki sitting by the door when you walked in.
"Do you know how late it is?" he asked you, his voice deadly calm.
"Sorry," you muttered, walking past him and throwing your bag onto the ground. "Last I checked, you were my friend - not my parent."
"Am I your friend?" he questioned angrily, standing up from his seat. This was one of the rare times when hands weren't covering his face and you had a full view of his face. His piercing red eyes bore into you, daring you to speak.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean that you've been spending more time with those U.A. brats more than me! The plan was to infiltrate the school and get close to All Might, not make friends with them!"
"I'm not sure if you fully understand how hard it is to fit in there. It was far too obvious I didn't fit in. If I did as you wanted and ignored all the students, everyone would suspect me. I'm sticking to the plan just as you wanted."
"Staying out with them until midnight isn't part of the plan! I was worried they figured it out and captured you!" he screamed. The anger that had been boiling in him all night finally spilled over.
"Wow. I can really see how much faith you have in me." You turned around and tried to go to your room to escape this stressful argument, but his arm shot out and his hand latched onto your wrist. With one hard tug, he spun you around and pinned you to the wall so you had nowhere else to go.
"Let me go," you demanded, struggling to keep your voice from wavering. You could've easily gotten away from him, but you didn't dare to make any sudden movements. You knew all too well what his quirk was. It was hard to believe he would ever use it on you, but you weren't about to test him, especially when he was this angry.
"You're my friend, (Y/N)!" he roared. "I won't let those pathetic, hero-wannabes take you away from me!"
"Jealousy doesn't suit you well, Shigaraki, so let it go. I don't consider them my friends any more than you do. You're still my one and only friend."
His grip on you slackened and the anger visible on his face slowly dissipated. He took a step back, giving you the space you so desperately needed. You felt as if you couldn't breathe with how close he once was to you.
"You mean it?" Emotion was so clearly written on his face. It was a sight that you didn't get to see very often.
"Of course. I'm just trying to make sure the plan goes without a hitch. As soon as I'm done and we accomplish everything, I'll have a whole lifetime to spend with you and only you."
He extended his arms out and embraced you in a hug. You didn't hesitate to hug your friend back and buried your face in his chest. He lowered his face into the crook of your neck and breathed in deeply.
"I won't ever lose you, (Y/N)."
