It was a fool's love; a bond that was destined to break before it even started.
Within the deepest part of his mind, he knew it wouldn't last, yet he couldn't help but try it anyway. From the moment he first laid eyes on you, he was enraptured not just by your looks, but your personality as well. You weren't one of those ass-kissing, hero fangirls that made him want to puke, albeit you weren't one who thought and acted as a villain would.
You walked your own path between both sides. In a way, you reminded him of himself.
It was obvious you knew exactly who he was the night he approached you in an alleyway, yet you didn't show even an ounce of fear. If anything, you were more so intrigued by why a villain such as himself would feel the need to approach you. It was no surprise that the two of you grew close.
Friends was an unbelievable understatement when it came to describing the two of you. In the span of only a few months, you and he grew far closer than ever expected, most times even spending the night together. You and Dabi saw each other nearly every day, most commonly in empty bars during the day and abandoned buildings at night to avoid the glances from prying eyes. He was well aware of what could happen to you if any authoritative figure spotted you with the likes of him.
For once in his life, Dabi cared enough about someone; someone who would ultimately betray him no less.
Over time, you began showing up less and less to your secret spots with him. At first, it was merely due to life sneaking up on you and swamping you with work to do though eventually, you just didn't want to anymore.
Your reasons behind meeting up with him were slowly beginning to fade into nothingness. With the start of your new job, you were no longer someone lonely in desperate need of companionship. You met people, made friends, and for the first time in years, you were happy. It was a safe spot for you so you could finally afford to let Dabi go and become just a mere person of your past.
Although, he wasn't as willing to let go.
He had no other people in his life; no other people he liked, that is. You were the first person that ever brought him joy - the first person he felt a true connection to. You didn't piss him off like the idiots in the League of Villains, nor did you act pompous like the heroes he dreamed of eradicating.
You were just [name], the girl he could talk to on late nights who actually cared for him. Or so he thought.
Every time he thought he was one step closer to moving on from you, he would spot you with your friends. You never once took any precautions to avoid him, probably thinking that Dabi, a heartless villain, wouldn't care either way. Oh, how wrong you were.
His scorching blue flames of hatred grew hotter and hotter each and every time he saw you with someone else. He had always been a master of keeping his emotions in check, but he just couldn't seem to control it anymore. Losing you affected him in more ways than one, though neither of you could've known that he would eventually spiral out of control.
It was on that night he snapped.
Seeing you with that guy was the trigger. He was around your age, handsome; there was no reason why you wouldn't be dating him. But to Dabi, that was the greatest betrayal of all after everything you and he did together; after all those nights alone in bed.
And with a wave of his hand, he burned everything to a crisp.
The people walking along the streets, the buildings; everything burned. The people went first. In mere seconds, all that was left of them were a pile of ashes that blew away into the burning blue night. The buildings took longer to burn but they eventually crumbled to dust, taking with them any poor soul that was stuck inside.
The only two people that remained amongst the wreckage was you and Dabi. You stood there looking frightened by the scene before you, almost as if you couldn't believe it was happening. You wanted to do something, anything, to stop this fiery rampage, but you were helpless against him. Even if you were born with a good quirk, you knew better than anyone that there was no stopping him.
"Why?" you managed to choke out, sounding absolutely horrified.
His turquoise eyes locked with yours and he wore an expressionless look on his face. Why you asked? Well, the answer was quite simple.
"I'll burn the world to ashes so that only you and I exist."
