I could tell that Lilac was missing Veronica like crazy. She was always asking where she was and when she was coming back. The truth was that I also missed her like crazy. She had just left me in the middle of the night and I didn't want to call her just yet. I wanted her to be able to focus and develop her own company without me disturbing her. I wanted her to have a career. But at the same time I wanted her here with me. I wanted her to raise Lilac with me.

*8 months later*
Months went by and Veronica still hadn't come home. All I knew was what Betty had told me. They were almost done with the company and by they she meant Veronica and Travis. I had no idea who Travis was but Veronica was telling me I shouldn't worry about him. Lilac's fourth birthday was coming up and Betty had been helping me plan it. Veronica had promised to come home for it but right after she would have to go back. They were really busy with the company but she had also promised that they soon were done. They just had to get the website up and then they were done. I thought this whole process would just take a couple of months but now it had been almost a year. Tomorrow I was going to go and pick her up at the airport and I was actually really nervous. I was scared of what to say or do. Should I hug her or do nothing "daddy!"
"Yes Lilac?"
"You wanna know what I want for my birthday?"
"Of course!"
"I want mommy to come home" I hadn't told her that Veronica was coming back yet cause I wanted it to be a surprise "well you know that miracles can happen"
"I know, I'm gonna wish for mommy to come home"
"Do that but now it's late and you have to go to bed so that you won't be tired tomorrow at your party"
I picked her up and took her to the bathroom. I brushed her teeth and helped her into her jammies. She ran into her bedroom and lay down in her bed. I walked over and sat down next to her and tucked her in "sleep good sweetie" I walked back into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of whiskey. I sat down and slowly drank it. I looked over at a picture of me, Veronica and Lilac at our graduation. This few months had been so hard without her and I didn't want her to feel bad but at the same time I wanted her to miss me too. I walked over to the drawer that the picture stood on. I opened the top drawer and took out the little box that was in it. I opened it and just looked at the beautiful ring inside of it. I had bought it right before Veronica had left. I had wanted to propose to her for a really long time but then she left. I was planning on doing it as soon as she came back now. It didn't matter if she would be gone for a few more months cause she would soon be back and then we would live happily ever after. At least that's what I want, I have no idea what she wants. For now all I knew was that I was going to pick her up tomorrow and now I needed some sleep. I put the ring back in the drawer and walked to my bedroom. I lay down and fell asleep immediately. I woke up the next day from my alarm. I got up, got dressed and walked downstairs to make some breakfast. This was something I did every morning so it wasn't anything new but since it was Lilac's birthday I decided to make her some of her favorite breakfast, french toast. While making breakfast I heard her little feet running towards the kitchen. Soon she came running in in her cute jammies "daddy guess what day it is today!!"
"Saturday?"
"No!"
"January 26th"
"Yes but what's special with today"
"Hmm I actually don't know"
"It's my birthday!"
"Right! It's your birthday!"
"What are you making?"
"Your favorite, french toast"
"Yay!!"
"You wanna help?" she nodded and I picked her up and sat her down next to me. We finished making the french toast and then I put her in the bath. We sat there and played in the bath since that was something she loved doing. I then helped her put on clothes "you wanna go play with Betty and Jughead for awhile?"
"Sure!" I put on her jacket and boots and then put on my own jacket and boots. I then put her in car seat and then drove to Betty and Jughead's. When I got there I helped her out of the car and she ran to the door. Betty opened and Lilac jumped up in her arms "hey beautiful, you wanna know what Jughead got you?"
"Yes!"
"He got you a train table that he just finished building so if you run inside you can play with it" Betty put her down and she quickly took her shoes and jacket off and then ran inside.
"So Archie, how are you feeling?"
"Happy but also nervous"
"About seeing her?"
"Yes, I haven't seen or talked to her in eight months except a few times via text about this"
"I get that but before you go I have to tell you something"
"Okay, what's up?"
"When Veronica first moved to New-York she started dating Travis and I don't know if they're still together but they were like a few months ago"
"You can't be serious?!" I got a weird feeling in my stomach and I felt tears start burning in my eyes.
"I'm so sorry Archie but maybe they aren't together"
"It doesn't matter if she is dating him or not, I'm going to win her back now and then she can go back to New-York and dump Travis" I walked back to my truck and drove to the airport. I was just sitting there waiting for Veronica. I was so ready for her to come. I was going to hug her and then tell her exactly how I felt. I would tell her how much I loved her and how much I wanted her back. I would win her back even though I just had today and tomorrow to win her over. She was leaving tomorrow night but it didn't matter, I needed her. I soon saw Veronica walking towards me. She waved at me and smiled, I smiled back at her and she hugged me "hi Archiekins, long time no see"
"Hey, I'm glad you're back. Lilac have missed you a lot. Also I need to tell you something, Veronica I-"
"Sorry Veronica I couldn't find any fresh fruit but I bought you water and some chocolate"
"Thank you Travis and it's okay" the guy that had just approached us was now looking up at me.
"Hello, you must be Archie. I am Travis, Veronica's boyfriend" I felt my heart shed into a million pieces. Yes it sounds dramatic but I could feel my heart breaking "hello, yes I'm Archie. I didn't know you were coming, Veronica didn't tell me"
"You didn't tell him babe?"
"It must have slipped my mind, now let's go home. I wanna see Lilac" I took Veronica's bags and walked out to the car. I had no idea what to say at all. I put her bags in the car and then hopped inside the car. Veronica sat down on the passenger and Travis sat down in the backseat. The drive back to Riverdale was awkward and quiet. But what was I supposed to do when the love of my life had just gotten back from New-York with a new boyfriend.
