"Happy birthday!" Nameless said as Jay opened up his bedroom door groggily.
"Thanks." Jay smiled despite his obvious exhaustion. Practice ran late yesterday and then there was the fact that he had to make up all of the homework he missed due to skipping class. For the past two days he hasn't gone to sleep any time before 1 am.
"I brought you a gift." Nameless hummed, taking out a small box from his pocket. "It is kind of stupid, but I have been doing this for the last month or so." He said while placing it in Jay's hand.
"The fact that you even got me anything at all means a lot to me." Jay smiled wider, taking the box and opening it slowly. Inside was a key ring filled with little key chains and charms on it. Jay looked through them, laughing at some and rolling his eyes at others. They all had to do with something that reminded Nameless of Jay, like his obsession with ice cream or his love for basketball. He somehow even found a charm of a storage closet, and that was the one Jay rolled his eyes at.
"It is not too corny?"
"No I love it." Jay laughed lightly before pulling him into a hug. Nameless gasped, but hugged back. "I think today is going to be a good day." He said before pulling away.
"Well I hope it will be. I will see you downstairs." Nameless nodded before walking away and leaving Jay to get dressed.
It usually didn't take that long for him to get ready, but today was an exception. His Instagram was blowing up with a bunch of comments but for once they weren't negative. They were happy birthday messages from his teammates. Over the past three days, the boys were a lot nicer to him. He wasn't sure if they were doing it because Chad told them to or if they were genuinely starting to like him, but he decided not to question it. Any time someone tried to make a rude comment to him and his teammates were around, they shut it down quickly. It was nice if not a little overbearing, but he was appreciative.
By the time he got downstairs, his family were all centered around the kitchen island talking idly. He was surprised to see Sabrina there. She was supposed to be home a few days ago but she was struck by delays.
"What's going on? Why are you guys so still?" Jay questioned, rolling up the sleeves on his shirt.
"I have a bone to pick with you." Sabrina huffed. "You were...." Sabrina paused for a minute, looking at David. "Tiranizar? What's the word?"
"Bullied." David smiled, chuckling a bit. Sabrina was always forgetting words in English and looking for David for help. Even Nameless could admit that it was kind of adorable, the way they worked in synch like that.
"Bullied." Sabrina frowned. "I leave for two weeks and this idiot goes off to California, you get bullied, and supposedly we don't love you."
"I take offense to that." Nameless mumbled.
"Shush, you're in for it later." She glared at him. Nameless backed down with a sigh. "Happy Birthday, Jay." Sabrina smiled slightly, walking over to him and pulling him into a huge hug. "I can't believe you're 14."
"It doesn't feel any different." Jay shrugged once he pulled away.
"Maybe you'll actually grow an inch this year." Said Mike from his spot in the kitchen.
"Hopefully." Jay smiled. He could tell Mike was trying to be rude but Jay never gave Mike the satisfaction to argue.
"Jay! Jay! You're still going to spend time with me right?" Carry pouted.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
"The internet says that when family gets older they stop spending time with you."
