"No offense, I just really need to get to class." Jay lied through his teeth, cringing at the girl's hand on his bicep.
"You don't have class this period. I know you're off from class." The girl, Vanessa, rolled her eyes.
"Okay but if I told you the real reason why I am trying to leave, you'd be upset and I don't want to make you upset." Jay admitted awkwardly. She had cornered him in the school library. He knew there was a reason why he didn't like libraries, this was just a new one to add to the list.
"Tell me you're not attracted to me and I'll let you go." Vanessa smirked, tilting her head the way girls did when they were trying to be flirty.
"I'm not attracted to you." Jay said quickly, gently removing his arm from her grasp.
"That's impossible. I see the way you look at me."
"Vanessa, you're a senior! I've only ever looked at you once because I've only ever seen you once." Jay tried to say nicely, but he was starting to lose patience. She wasn't the first girl to come up to him and try flirting with him. Ever since word got out that he was the team's star player, he was automatically wanted by most of the school. It was weird how he went from being at rock bottom a few weeks ago to feeling happy again. The girls were a bit much though. He thought that girls liked older guys, not a newly turned 14 year old boys who had barely hit puberty yet.
"But you looked at me during your game. We made eye contact. You smiled at me." Vanessa recalled, and some of her story was true. The whole truth, however, was that Vanessa was wearing a very revealing shirt that adorned her very big breasts and the jumping up and down she was doing distracted him a bit and well... you know the rest. He could admit that it wasn't his finest moment, the momentary staring he did while the game continued around him, but he felt guilty about it for the rest of the night. He only smiled at her as an attempt to play off the fact the he had been caught.
"Vanessa you're really pretty, like insanely gorgeous but I think you are making a pretty bad judgement flirting with me. I mean, I'm just me. Think about it." Jay began to ramble nervously.
"And what's wrong with being just you?" Vanessa questioned.
"Lots of things, actually. But you didn't come here for my life story."
"Give me your arm." Vanessa rolled her eyes. Jay reluctantly obeyed, and in one second the girl was pulling a pen out of her back pocket and writing her phone number on his forearm.
"You know you could have just asked me for my phone."
"Okay, but in the movies it's more badass to do it this way." Vanessa laughed, and Jay had to smile at that. "I'll be waiting for that call." She said lightly before strutting away, her hair jumping in long black curls behind her.
"I wouldn't get caught up with Vanessa." Chad offered, causing Jay to jump at the sound.
"Where did you even come from? The shadows?" He rushed, placing his hand on his heart and turning around to face the taller player. He was leaning against one of the many book shelves with his famous smirk on his face.
"You're way too easy to scare. Vanessa is way out of your league. She doesn't do relationships. She does hookups, she preys on freshman, and you don't seem like a hookup type of guy." Chad shrugged. Truth was, Jay was growing on the guy. He didn't make friends easily, in fact most of his friends were brain dead assholes who liked to get drunk at parties with him. Jay was different though. He was a pain in the ass and extremely naive, but it was nice change from what he was used to.
"What is that supposed to mean? I could be a hookup kind of guy if I wanted to." Jay said defensively, crossing his arms over his chest.
"No you couldn't. You're too nice of a guy to use girls like I do. You're the type of guy who crushes on a girl for years, likes going on dates every Friday night and plans to settle down with someone you see a future with. You're the kind of guy who wants your first time to be special because it would actually mean something to you. You're not the kind of guy who should get involved with someone like Vanessa." Chad rolled his eyes.
"Was that a compliment?" He raised an eyebrow.
"If you want to take it as one, go ahead. Guys like that are virgins until college." He snorted.
"I-" Jay began, shifting his feet.
"Another girl is coming up to you. Look who's popular today." Chad pointed out, nodding towards a familiar beautiful girl making her way towards the two. Jay looked up frantically, fear spreading across his face before he tried to walk away. Chad smirked in amusement, looking between the two with a hint of curiosity in his eye. "I'm guessing that's the multiple year long crush. She's bad."
"I'm assuming you mean bad as in fine." Jay said under his breath. Her lips were glossed and her chocolate skin was glowing as the sunlight hit perfectly from behind. Her hair was done in its usually wild mess of curls, silver hoops swinging from her ears with every step she took. Her eyes were bright and a smile toyed at her lips as she played with nails as she walked. She was wearing a laced pink crop top that hugged her chest nicely, an olive green bomber jacket that Jay knew she owned for years now, and light blue high waisted jeans that shaped every curve in her body in a way that made everyone she met stare.
"Yeah, you have no chance with that." Chad chuckled before turning around and disappearing between the bookshelves again as Jasmine stopped in front of him.
"You gotten taller." She started off, shaking her head slightly to remove her brown curls from her eyes.
"I did?" Jay furrowed his eyebrows, but I guess he could see it. He still wasn't as tall as Jasmine, but the height gap between them shortened.
"You did. Your eyes got brighter too." She mumbled quietly.
Jay opened his mouth, but closed it. There was no way she'd been paying that close attention to his appearance. He just wanted to know the real reason why she came over. "Well you look beautiful as always, but I guess nobody has to tell you that." He offered, clenching his fist when he heard Chad's snickering from behind the shelf.
"Look, I hate that we aren't friends any more." Jasmine sighed, looking at him desperately.
"I mean, we were never really that close in the first place. You've just always sat next to me because of alphabetical order and I fell for you and then you turned me down and it's okay."
"About that, I still feel really guilty." Jasmine frowned.
"It's in the past." Jay reassured. "But I doubt you came over here to tell me that."
"I came over here to tell you that if the offer is still on the table, I would really like to go on a date with you." Jasmine smiled gently, reaching out to put her hand on his arm just as Vanessa did. This time, Jay didn't cringe. He smiled and tried to bite his lip to keep himself from squealing at the gesture. There was no way in hell his life could be going so well right now. "Hope I'm not too late?" She asked hopefully, gesturing towards the number on his arm.
"No freaking way." Chad mumbled.
"I can hear you, you know." Jay yelled back.
"How? Why? What?" Chad furrowed his eyebrows as he came out from behind the shelves to stand next to him. "It's okay babe, I can get you some help because obviously something must be wrong with you if you want to go out with him."
Jasmine looked at him quizzically before turning back to Jay. "How about tonight? I'll text you?" She asked hopefully. All Jay could do was nod in shock as she smiled and turned around to walk away.
Chad practically gaped at how those jeans shaped her-
"And by the way, 'babe', don't ever call me that again creep." She called back as she kept walking away.
"She's amazing, isn't she?" Jay laughed, reaching to pat Chad on the shoulder which he shrugged off with disdain.
"Whatever."
