I was lazing in one of the beach chairs with a Pina colada on the small table next to me, under the umbrella made of palm leaves built right there on the beach for our personal use. Edmund had gone to the workout centre to see what they had on hand for us to use. As much as we enjoyed our walks around the facility, it would not be enough to keep slim while we were eating and drinking whatever we wanted.
I had my eyes half shut and let the waves crashing against the shore lull me into a sort of half-sleep state. The warmth, the sun, it was just enough to enjoy the slight breeze that wafted across now and then from the water. I didn't know when Daddy would be coming back to sit next to me or coax me back into the cold waters. I smiled a little at the thought of us playing in the surf.
"Hello there." I heard a female voice from rather close by and peeked open one eye to see who was disturbing me on our private beach. It was a young brunette in a blue print bikini, coming from the direction of the water without a spec of wet sand on her feet. I raised a brow slightly but determined to be polite, in case it was a neighbour.
"Hello." I kept it short in the hopes she would just pass by. No such luck though. She came right up to me and put a hand lazily on her hip.
"It seems we are neighbours here. My name is Rachel, Rachel Preston." She looked at me expectantly.
"Brendan. Pleased to meet you." I didn't offer a hand to shake and barely moved in my chair. She wasn't getting the hint though. She nodded her head and kept talking.
"I'm here with my parents. It is so boring though. It's too hot. The water is too cold and gross. I wanted to go to Aspen with my friends, you know? Here I have nothing to do." She plopped down on Daddy's chair and I looked at her then with some alarm. Was she planning on staying? How the heck was I going to get rid of her before Edmund got back?
"So go on an excursion if you're bored. I hear they have a lot of them and they look interesting. I rather like it here." I said after a minute, muttering the last bit. I looked back at the water, wishing it was quiet again.
"Maybe for the first few times you come they are. After a while though it's just the same thing over and over. Oh look, n*ggers farming. Oh look, n*ggers making cigars. Gah. Put me on another smelly donkey and I will freak shit." She moaned as she waved her hands in the air. I stared now openly.
"Good God. People like you really do exist. Ew. Would you kindly get out of my partner's chair and leave? He will be rather annoyed if you are hanging around when he gets back." I sniffed at her offended look and looked back out at the water.
"What the hell!? I just wanted to make a friend." She spat at me as she got up. I snorted.
"No friend of mine has an attitude like that. Shove off." I waved my hand at her in a shooing motion. She stormed off in a huff, flinging her hair and sand around as she went.
"Having fun?" I heard his voice behind me and I turned in relief.
"No, but I will be now that you are here. Did you see that girl? She was such a b*tch! All she did was whine and use bad language. I have never met someone so rude before in my life." I made room as he sat down next to me and stared for a second. Then he smiled at me and I felt relieved somehow.
"I really don't have to worry about you, do I?" He muttered as he leaned in for a kiss. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, so I just kissed him like I missed him. That seemed to ease the jittery feeling the woman had left with her presence. I felt his hand on my face and running his fingers through my hair. I sighed in content, right in the middle of our kiss. He laughed.
