A Place of My Own

The hotel was getting on my nerves. I needed something more permanent and cheaper. My new job seemed all settled. I fell into the routine quickly and they were happy to have me. I didn't mind my coworkers. They seemed like nice enough people. I just craved a routine. I wanted, no needed, my own space. I had been researching online to find an apartment. Or Condo, I wasn't sure what the difference was yet.

The building I was checking out tonight was not too far from work and boasted onsite amenities and workout space. I liked the laundry service, since I still had not gotten the hang of cleaning my own clothes. I had to take them to a dry cleaners and have them done for me, which cost a small fortune each month. This place would be both cheaper and closer. Not by much, but it would do.

I pulled into the guest parking spot out front and rang the call button for the building manager. An old lady answered the comm, making me smile. I was let into the building by the security guard and made my way to the office. The lady said my references checked out, even seemed a little celebrity struck by my appearance. I was polite and let her show me the facilities.

Then she took me up to the space in question. It was a two bedroom, but I liked the idea that I might have friends some day to come visit me or stay the night. The living room was spacious and had a small balcony. The kitchen was really nice, and she gushed about the appliances being recently upgraded. If only she knew what a dunce I was in the kitchen. Oh well.

"The fee is 1150 a month plus utilities, not sure if you can handle it." The older woman said. I nodded and looked at the bare walls of the bedrooms. It was a start. I motioned for the contract and looked it over carefully. It seemed fair and there wasn't anything fishy about it.

"I'll take it. Thank you." I didn't like how empty it was, but that could be fixed. I followed the woman to her office and completed the paperwork to make it official. I would have to get furniture and necessities, whatever that meant. I was worried about being on my own, but if so many others before me had done it, I could too right? Right.
