Crouch's Madness

I woke up feeling extremely sore on Sunday morning, because of all the climbing I had to do to get in the cave with Sirius; but after a cold bath, my muscles felt numb enough so I wouldn't notice the pain.

After putting on a fresh pair of clothes and combing out my hair from all the dust that fell in it in the cave, I fed Unicorn and Faun, and also the two last kittens I didn't have a chance to give away. I had to admit that I was reluctant to give them away, because they had to be one of the cutest things I had ever seen.

One of the kittens had fuzzy white fur and crystal blue eyes with a large head and fat stomach, I never named her. The other kitten was a boy, and he had white fur with golden brown spots everywhere and he had hazel eyes; I never named him either.

"You want one, Hermione?" I asked when she got out of the shower and started to force her bushy brown hair into a ponytail. "Crookshanks would like a friend."

"Crookshanks likes being the only pet, don't you Crookshanks?" Hermione cooed to the squash-faced cat that was snoring very loudly on Hermione's bed.

"I don't think he can answer," I said in false thoughtfullness.

"Oh, shut it," Hermione blushed a little and started to walk towards the door. "Come on, Harry and Ron should be up already."

"Puh - lease," I rolled my eyes but followed her down the girls' dormitory steps with Unicorn and Fawn in my arms. "It's a Sunday, those boys will be sleeping in. . . well, at least Ron will; Harry's used to waking up early." Because the Durlsyes make him look after the breakfast while they adore their Ickle Diddykins, I added bitterly in my head.

The Common Room was fairly empty, what with some boys and girls waiting for their boyfriend or girlfriend to walk to breakfast with, but it still had that tired aura of a room filled with kids who had just woken up.

I noticed that no one was sitting by the fire except for Dennis Creevy, who was snoozing away; but everyone else was sitting by open windows, hoping the cold wind would wake them up. Watching everyone, a yawn escaped my lips without my permission.

"These boys better hurry up, I'm getting t- tired," My second yawn made me stutter the last word.

Unicorn watched Neville Longbottom's toad bouncing about with interest and hopped out of my arms to go and chase it - let me just say that that was the fastest toad I had ever seen - and I felt Fawn go limp in my arms as she fell asleep.

"Well, you wittle lazy," I said to her in a baby voice.

Hermione and I sat at the table in the corner of the room where most fifth year students sat to do their OWL's and we waited for Harry and Ron.

FInally, after what felt like ten hours, Harry came down looking awake with Ron trudging behind him with his hair slightly ruffled as though he rolled out of bed without combing it.

"Oh golly," I said in half amusement and half exasperation. "We've been waiting for hours!"

"It's only been three minutes," Hermione said, looking at me weirdly.

I frowned at her, Fawn still in my arms. "Well I was close. Come on, lets go to breakfast before all the good stuff is gone. . . "

Harry, Ron, Hermione and I went up to the Owlery after breakfast on Sunday to send a letter to Percy, asking, as Sirius had suggested, whether he had seen Mr. Crouch lately. We used Hedwig, because it had been so long since she'd had a job. When we had watched her fly out of sight through the Owlery window, we proceeded down to the kitchen to give Dobby his new socks which were really cool (one of them even started to scream when they got too smelly).
