It took Rissy almost three hours to tell her story. There were some parts where Skylor had to intervene when Rissy didn't quite get things right, but she got it mostly spot on. It was pretty cool to hear her point of view, but it was also really boring. It then got really sweet and mushy when Kai forgave her and they hugged it out. I was desperate to play Candy Crush.
The next morning Sensei Zane wanted us to do training exercises. "We're going to be doing races," He said. "It'll be a team effort. You must fly to the ground, complete an obstacle course and come back. Skylor and I will stay back to be the judges. I want Cole and Lloyd to go together, Kai and Aryssi and Bird and Jay."
Great. I was stuck with Jay and Cole wasn't with us. It was also incredibly cold and windy.
Zane nodded to Skylor. "On your marks," she said. Jay created his dragon and I climbed on. Kai was riding on Rissy's dragon
"Wait!" Aryssi called out. "What about the Carlings?"
"They went to look for a new apartment," Skylor replied, "But they'll be back later today. Now, go!" She shouted and Jay took off. I yelled out in fright as I almost fell off, but immediately gained my balance and held on. The ride was a little over 30 seconds long, but Jay didn't say a word to me the entire time. The training course was fairly easy and we were only seconds behind Rissy and Kai. We were on the last obstacle when a massive black fog appeared in the distance. It was spreading along the entire horizon and shooting towards the temple at an alarming speed.
"Go!" Lloyd shouted. "Back to the temple!"
Panic flared in Jay's eyes. Aryssi created her dragon almost immediately, her and Kai rapidly ascending in the sky to the temple. Cole and Lloyd followed.
"Jay?" I muttered. "Any time now."
"I'm trying!" He yelled, fear engulfing his entire face. The fog was almost upon us. Jay finally managed to create his dragon and I hopped on as we took off. Aryssi had made it to the temple and was now safe, but we weren't. A black bead shot through the air, striking Jay on the shoulder. He moaned in pain and his shoulder solidified. The black bullet was now enlarging, spreading over his entire body, immobilizing him. He couldn't control his dragon and we both started falling. The ground was screaming closer, the wind slicing through me like daggers. I shut my eyes and waited for the slap of the ground. But it never came. I was struck with a wry black bead in my stomach, the black sheet covering my body within seconds. I tried desperately not to pass out, but it was impossible. The cold darkness consumed me.
I opened my eyes in a dark room. I could see outlines of objects and various people milling around, but it was too dark to see colours. There were ice cold chains around my wrists and I was in a box made of metal bars. I smashed my chained wrists on the bars. They rattled and clanged, but none of the people moving around seemed to notice or care.
"I've already tried," a voice laced with sadness said. I looked to the right and saw Jay in the cell to the right. He was crunched up in a small ball that made him seem smaller and weaker than he really was. "They won't respond to you."
The sudden voice made us both jump. "This will be fun," she hissed. "A whole family reunion."
"That's not possible," Jay hissed. His voice was mostly anger, with a splash of defeat and a dab of fear. "Nya died fourteen years ago."
"Did she?" The voice had changed. It was now slightly lower in pitch, but still definitely feminine.
"Yes," Jay said. "And I am super hooped, so before you tell me any more lies, please let me out before I zap you to the moon!" He was now doing his classic panicked yell that you see him doing in the movies made about the Ninja. Skylor still complains that they haven't included her in any of them, despite being a Ninja for more than 12 years.
