Jay's POV
I've killed them.
Why did I ever tell Bird to press an untested button, forgetting that I need to be nearby for the shields to work? Stupid, stupid Jay. Always doing without thinking.
"Bird, Rissy, come in. Annie, Bird, Aryssi, if you can hear this please, please respond," Cole begged.
"Com systems cannot detect any users that are not in this area. Their radios must not work in space," Zane said.
Why did I ever tell Bee to press that little blue button?
"I'm not giving up. They will respond, they can't be dead," Cole said, throwing his hammer to the ground with a literally earth shattering thunk.
"I think we have more problems-" Skylor shouted, pointing up at the sky with her katana. The swarm of Blekkspruts that had previously been attacking the Bounty was now coming at us. Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no this is not good. Not good at all.
Suddenly they all fired at once. Hundreds of little black pellets of magic flew towards us. Without thinking I created a shield around the group of us, causing every black ball to disappear in the electric field.
"If you still have your power," Kai said, "there isn't a chance that Bird does too."
Yup. I've killed my son.
