Of course my reaction time was delayed, but not by too much.
"Temari, I am going to stop him."
When she didn't reply, I looked over to where she was beside me. She was staring at the Shukaku form in fear, her arms limp at her side. I didn't blame her.
I sighed as I built up my strength, 'Bekeneko, I need some of your leg strength.'
-Honoka, you are already at half the chakra you had going into the 3rd exam, let alone full strength.-
'I don't care.'
-Just know, I won't let you die.-
I sighed, I know what that means. If Gaara puts me in imediate fatal danger, Bakeneko will not hesitate to kill him. I always found it strange how my demon, unlike others treated me like her child more than her container.
I began to feel the power build up in my legs, I crouched down.
'Alright Bakeneko, do you think that's enough to reach Gaara?' I asked while looking at Gaara standing at the center of the sand form's forehead.
-Yes.-
'Okay, 3...2...1...GO'
Flying towards Gaara in itself took less than 5 seconds, but the feeling of flying through the air was amazing. Too bad I was too focused on helping Gaara to enjoy it. I landed on the sand and felt one of the muscles in my leg tear, '*sigh* Another side effect to too much power.' I began limping towards Gaara as he was glaring down at Naruto.
"Gaara! What are you doing?" I asked as I reached his side.
"Honoka, what are you doing here? You know it's dangerous." He said making my heart flutter as I realized he wanted to keep his promise of protecting me.
"Never mind that Gaara. I made a promise to protect you too! Letting Shukaku out, you know what that does to you! You know what it could do to everything. I won't let him have anymore of your mind Gaara!" I said while attempting to rest a comforting hand on his arm, which he violently shrugged off.
"It isn't your decision to make Honoka." I looked into his eyes and noticed a bloodlust in it, and Shukaku beginning to take a stronger hold, "If you try and stop me I will have to hurt you. Just get out of here."
"Gaara, please. Just forget about this! Is this fight really that important to you?" I asked as I saw his guard falter.
He grabbed onto his head and began whipping it back and forth, Shukaku was talking. I quickly went to support him when his right hand lashed out at me sending sand at me causing me to fall over slightly.
"I thought I told you to get out of here!" He said as I began getting up.
"I won't leave you Gaara. You don't deserve to be left alone anymore."
He began to falter again as Shukaku pushed him more, but Gaara was beginning to resist, this was my only chance.
"Gaara, let's just go home, you know, and watch the clouds and stars."
Unfortunately, as I was talking Shukaku had won the mind war. By the time I noticed it was too late.
"NO!" Gaara yelled as he flung his arm out again, this time a jet of sand coming my way and flying me off the sand body.
As I was falling everything seemed to be in slow motion, I met Gaara's eyes one more time to see him make himself fall asleep; but just before his head fell, he make eye contact with me, regret smothering his features. As I got closer to the tree line I heard many people yelling out my name, which was funny because who really cared about me? Anyway apparently I was falling too fast for anybody to catch me, because next thing I knew my back hit a tree. I heard multiple cracks go through my body signifying that I had broken many bones. I coughed once more and felt blood dribble down my face from my nose and mouth.
-Honoka?! Honoka!-
I really did try to respond to my faithful demon, but all I could manage to do was let out a wheeze of pain as I blacked out.
