Once the two of us got outside I looked around wildly. Neither Taylor or Chase were to be found. Both either on their way to wherever we have to go, or they're in danger.
Aaron glanced sideways at me. "Hey, you okay?" he asked.
I'm pretty sure if looks could kill he would be dead, "Yea, i'm perfect. It's not like I can't find my brother or anything."
The boy looked down at his hands. "You care about him a lot, huh?"
"Well, yea," I said, my expression softening. This Aaron was different than the one I had just been with. Before he was upbeat, somewhat of a smile on his lips, but now, instead was a frown, his index finger tracing his palm.
"I wish I had someone who loved me like that," Aaron muttered.
I sat down on the grass, resting for a bit. "Wait, don't you have a family?" Aaron sat down next to me, but didn't answer. Instead he put his head on my shoulder, and just sat, still looking at his hand.
"I had one once," Aaron said after a long silence. His eyes met mine, and I just stared into them. "Then one car crash ruined it all. I had a sister who had blonde hair, but gray eyes instead of green." Aaron never looked away. "A brother with brown hair and green eyes, he was the charmer, that's for sure. My mom and dad were the ones driving." The boy finally looked away, breaking the 'spell' he cast on me. "I don't know what happened. Everyone in the car died, no one in my family survived. Luke ended up adopting me ish and Taylor became my sister."
I looked at Aaron, "Where were you?"
His eyes held a sadness, that even in the little time i've known him isn't normal. My arms wrapped around him, hugging the him. "I was at a cross country meet, they were on their way. It was an away meet, but an important one. Around 500 kids were there."
"So your a runner?"
Aaron looked into my eyes again, once more catching my attention. "We should go. You know, your brother and Taylor. Might be in danger?" He stood, brushing himself off, but he held out his hand for me to take. The sun made him look magical, shining around him.
I gripped his hand and let him pull me up. "Yea, let's go look for my idiot brother and your friend."
Aaron laughed, the happy in him returning. "She's an idiot, too."
I laughed after he said that, but what he said still bothered me. Both Chase and I had a pretty good life, but Aaron didn't. He went through things my brother and I have never thought of before. Maybe Taylor did too? Who was this Luke dude? Was our great life going to go downhill soon? I only shivered at the thought of bad things happening to my family.
Light became dark as we searched for the two. Aaron and I had finally decided to make camp. He made a quick fire in an ally for the two of us.
"I'm gonna take a guess and say you've done this before?" I smiled at him.
Aaron smiled back. "A couple of times." After a second of silence Aaron spoke again, "I'll take first watch, you rest. This is your first time at this."
I glanced at him, and was trying to fight sleep, before my eyes grew heavy. My head went to his shoulder. At first he was stiff, before his body relaxed and let me get comfortable. "Just for a little bit."
That was all that came out of me before I drifted to sleep. Somehow ending in a nightmare.
Chase was hanging by his foot. A long chain attached to his ankle, the other end wrapped around a metal beam. His face was scratched in many places. My gaze went to his hands that flopped around freely, above his head, not really that close to the floor. But it seemed like freedom was taunting him, cause his fingertips reached for his foot, so close to detaching it and letting him loose.
