CRESS: If we're going to die, I have two things to say. One, you guys are the best and only real family I have ever had. Ever since Queen Levana took me away for being a different, I felt that I would never know what love is. You guys taught me friendship and love, and i thank you. And second, I just got a news update off of my high tech satellite, and the avalanche seems to have steered clear of here. We're safe. For now.

SCARLET to CINDER: That is the nicest thing that anyone has said to us. I've always thought of Cress as my little sister, it's nice to know that she feels the same way.

CINDER: This just makes it worse if one dies. I don't know how I'll move on without all three of you. You guys are my everything. I wouldn't be alive without you keeping down to Earth.

SCARLET: Then we'll just have to make sure no one dies. We just need to stick to our training, and we should have at least an 85% chance of survival.

THORNE overhears only SCARLET's comment, and butts in.

THORNE: On that happy note, off to bed!

NARRATOR: The rest of the weeks at base camp went just fine. Thorne was his usual annoying self, and the girls were actually trying to be productive, figuring out the best path to take.

NARRATOR: The time to start was climbing had approached, there were no regrets of this mission among the climbers. The training that they had done for climbing up steep slopes and crevices had served them well, as they were easily able to set-up the climbing materials. The only time an issue had occurred was the speed of the group.

NARRATOR: They had to go slow enough that they would not be found in particularly steep areas during nightfall, in case of an avalanche. But they had to move fast enough that they finished climbing Everest before the climbing season ended, which would most likely catch them in an even more abundance of avalanches, risking death.

CINDER: We're almost finished climbing the mountain! We could finish today, if we use our time efficiently.

SCARLET: I'm so glad that I get to achieve this feat with you guys. We will go down in history as the youngest to climb up and down Mount Everest and make it back alive.

THORNE: This will be the first time that I have finished anything worthwhile, and I'm glad it's with my family by my side.

CRESS hadn't said anything, but no one seemed to notice, as she was a naturally quiet person. She was a little pale and dizzy, but didn't think much of it.
