They didn't hear anything back from the police since Louis spoke to them. It was the next day and Louis and Harry sat at the kitchen table with Gemma as they all slurped on their teas and made small conversation.

"This is random, but what is your last name? You never told me," Louis asked Harry before blowing lightly on his tea.

"Styles."

"That's a nice last name," the boy hummed in thought.

"So Louis, you haven't heard anything back from the police?" Gemma changed the subject on the boy who was mid-sip.

Louis swallowed quickly and set his mug down. "Nothing."

Harry sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I can't believe this. You have bruises on your body from him. How is that not enough proof?"

"People could easily hurt themselves and blame it on someone else Harry. I don't blame them for looking into it more," Louis reasoned with the two.

"I still think it's ridiculous," Harry muttered before dumping his cup in the sink and going up to his room. Gemma gave Louis a knowing look and he sighed and followed Harry up the stairs.

Harry sat on his bed with a lot of thoughts running through his mind. Louis walked in the room and sat next to Harry quietly.

"It's okay Harry. We will figure everything out."

"But it's not okay. Why did we have to meet under these circumstances. It isn't fair to you! You're so perfect, and you don't deserve any of this," Harry's voice cracked. The emotions were evident in his voice.

"Life isn't fair, Haz."

"But still it-" he huffed and took a breath. Wiping his hand down his face tiredly before continuing.

"It still shouldn't have turned out like this." Louis placed his hand on top of Harry's.

"Everything happens for a reason." Harry nodded in agreement even though he still felt that it shouldn't have been like this.

"Also, I know it isn't the greatest time, but I figured I'd tell you anyways to brighten the mood," Louis paused.

"What?"

"My birthdays tomorrow.. I'm gonna be 17." Harry's eyes widened and he smiled softly.

"Why didn't you tell me?" There was a soft edginess to his voice that melted Louis' heart.

"It never came up I guess," Louis shrugged with a pout of his lip.

"Lou did you get schooled properly?" Harry asked out of nowhere.

Louis shook his head 'no'. "When did you get taken out?"

"Secondary school, year eight," Louis responded honestly.

"That's crazy," Harry said in disbelief.

"Yeah I guess. I wanted to be an author. Or maybe a drama teacher. Never properly decided."

"That's really cool, Lou."

"I think the only thing that kept me sane in that basement was writing little stories. There was something so serene about putting the pen to the paper and being able to create anything I wanted with my mind. I could go anywhere I wanted as long as my mind guided me. It made me feel flightless. As if I wasn't trapped between the four walls in a basement for 4 years."

"That's really special. Maybe you can write something for me sometime and I'll critique you. Bring a little notepad," Harry laughed in delight.

"What about you?" Louis questioned curiously. Harry never talked about his interests.

"I'm a baker! The shop has been closed because of the snow, but I'll show you the ropes once it's all set up," Harry smiled and squeezed Louis' hand.

Louis had fallen asleep while watching a movie so Harry took his chance to slip out of bed and run downstairs where Gemma was sitting on the living room rug on her phone.

"Gem! We need to make an emergency stop at the store!" Harry rushed out quickly.

"Why?" Gemma asked quickly. She started to assume the worst.

"Louis' birthday is tomorrow!"

"Oh! I thought he was hurt or something by the panic on your face," she rolled her eyes at him and Harry huffed.

"Hey! It's been a bad 4 years for him. Let's throw him a little celebration," Harry suggested. Gemma nodded and stood up. They both grabbed their shoes then headed out to buy decorations and a small cake.

But even the happiest moments can sky rocket from 100 to 0.

And quickly.
