You and Dad waited in the waiting room, anxious to hear news. The Absol stayed next to you. It had been two hours since it happened. A nurse came out from the double doors with a clip board. You and your dad raised your head and looked at her. She walked up to you with a face of surprise.
"Well, I don't know how you were able to predict it, but if she hadn't come in when she did, she would have been a lot worse." The nurse said.
"Is she going to be okay?" Your father asked. The nurse looked at your father and nodded.
"She'll be fine, she's on medication right now, but she'll need to stay overnight in case she shows symptoms." She replied. Both of you gave a sigh of relief. You looked at the Absol. "Is this your Absol?"
"No." You said looking back at the nurse. "It's wild, but it warned us that this would happen." The nurse looked at the Absol for a minute.
"Well, consider yourself lucky that it wasn't trying to scare the entire city." She said. "They don't exactly have the best reputation around the region." The Absol laid its head on your lap. You looked back down at the Absol, and started to rub its head a little. "She really seems to like you for being a wild Pokémon."
"Wait a minute, like? But I haven't even done anything with her." You said.
"Pokémon are mysterious." She said. "They can be either very domestic and understandable, or wild and unpredictable." The nurse went down to pet the Absol, but the Asbol growled a little bit. She stopped reaching out and slowly pulled her hand away. "She seems really defensive."
"Strange, she lets me do it without a problem." You said.
"Could we go in and see her?" Your dad asked.
"She's still being monitored." The nurse said. "It may be a few hours until she's able to be visited."
"But I need to make sure she's okay!" Dad said. You put your hand on your dad's shoulder.
"Dad, everything will be okay, I may know next to nothing about this, but I'm getting a feeling that you don't need to worry about it." You said. Your dad looked you in the eyes. It was a little uncomfortable keeping eye contact with him, but he sighed as he closed his eyes.
"Alright." Your dad said. "But before I leave." Your dad looked at the Absol for a little bit. You looked at the Absol and saw it was staring back. "Come on (Y/n), we're going to make a quick trip."
"Where to?" You asked standing up.
"The Pokémart." Your dad replied. He stood up, then grabbed your hand as he guided you out the hospital. The Absol followed behind.
"Why are we going to the Pokémart?" You asked.
"You'll see." Your dad said. You walked over to the pokémart, then your dad stopped you at the entrance. "Stay here for a minute." You were a bit confused, but you stayed outside. The Absol sat next to you and nudged you hand with her head. You looked at her for a second, then rubbed her head as you crouched down.
"You saved my mom's life!" You said. "But why would you warn me about this?" The Absol leaned her head on your chest, then laid down on the ground. You sat down and continued to rub the Absol's head. You moved down to the hair hanging over her face, and she began to squirm a little bit. From the tone she was trying to say, it sounded like she really enjoyed it. Your dad came out of the pokémart, holding a paper bag. He walked in front of you and stared down at you.
"Son, I've got something for you." Your father said. You looked up as your father dug through the bag. He pulled out a crimson red ball with black running along the center, going horizontally. You about fell forward and crashed on the ground.
"A Cherish Ball?!" You said surprised. "How?! Those things are impossible to find, let alone buy!"
"That is true." Your father said. "But it looks like life said otherwise." He handed you the Cherish Ball. "I think you and I are thinking the same thing." You looked at the Cherish Ball for a second, then at the Absol. She looked right at you, then nodded.
"Alright, let's do this then." You said. You tapped the Cherish Ball on the Absol, and it got sucked in. One shake, another shake, then another, then a soft click came from the ball. You looked at the crimson pokéball. You knew she was willing to let herself get caught, but something felt a little off about it, like there was another intent.
"Now you have your own Pokémon." Dad said. "What are you going to do with her first?" You looked at the Cherish Ball for a second, then at your father.
"I'm going to teach it English." You said. Your father looked at you a bit surprised.
"Are you sure they can learn English?" Your dad asked.
"Well, it can understand us, so I'd assume speaking it wouldn't be too different." You said. You stood back up, and hugged your dad. "Thank you so much."
"I should be thanking you." Your father said. "You're the one that prevented this from getting worse."
"Actually, that was Absol." You said. "She's the reason this turned out the way it did." Your dad held you in his arms tightly.
"Then I guess you chose the right first Pokémon." Your dad said. "Now come on, I think the two of us need to go and do something to help us relax."
"Hold on a second." You said. You released Absol from her pokéball. She looked at you with a smile on her face. "Now we can get going. Come on Absol." The three of you walked off into Fortree City. It felt strange, but even if this Pokémon was strange, you were fine with it. It actually comforted you a little bit to know that you had someone with you now. You heard Absol humming something. You looked at her curiously.
"P-p-p-promise." You widened your eyes. You looked back at your dad, who was giving the same look.
"Did you teach her that?" Your dad asked.
"No, but holy Miltank! She said her first word!" You said hugging the Absol. You felt her rubbing her head on the side of yours.
"This Absol is just full of surprises." Your dad said. "Come on, let's get going."
