After eating, training, and everything else they had to do, Boots went in her tree. She began to read a book about a teenage girl named Christine who is kidnapped and hates her kidnapper named Jeremy who is a male. Jeremy tells Christine that he only kidnapped her because her parents were going to kill her the next day. Of course, Christine doesn't believe him and thinks he's crazy so he lets her go. Later on in the book, Christine finds her parents who end up trying to kill her but Jeremy saves her again before that happens. Then they fall in love and help others who have parents like Christine's.

While reading, Boots heard the voice of a strange male. "Who are you?" It was a very quiet voice but Boots could definitely hear it. She looked through the leaves to see if anyone was there but she didn't see anyone. Boots hopped down from the tree and searched around for the source of the noise. Nothing. Maybe she's just hearing things. With her book still in her hand, she sat under the tree and continued reading. "Where is he?" Okay, now she knows she isn't hearing things. "Where are you?" Boots waited for a response but only received silence. Knowing that they weren't going to show themselves, she decided to answer their question. "I don't know who you're talking about and I don't think I should tell you my name either. Seeing as you don't want me to know anything about you, you shouldn't know anything about me." Still silence. Boots was positive that she wasn't hearing things. Then there was movement in the bushes.

Setting her book down, she crept over to the bushes, seeing the bushes move again. This wasn't an animal, or else it would have come up to her. This was a person. Quietly, she grabbed the largest, nearest stick she could find, and hit whatever was behind it. Immediately, a head popped up and looked Boots directly in the eyes. "Derek?" Derek rubbed his head. "Yeah, it's me. And hitting your guard with a stick isn't right. That hurt." Boots smiled a fairly small smile and put the stick down. "Sorry. Were you the one who was saying those things before? That better not have been a prank, Derek." Derek looked at her confused. "I didn't hear anyone. I mean, except you talking to the sky." Boots sighed and looked around. Her eyes stopped at Derek's leg and widened. "Derek, are you okay? You're bleeding!" Derek looked at his leg and then back to Boots.

"What are you talking about? My leg is fine." Derek explained. Boots looked into Derek's eyes and back to his leg. He was right. Nothing was there. What was going on? Was she seeing things and hearing things at the same time? She felt like she was going crazy. Boots covered her face with her hands as if frustrated and took them off. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm, uh, I'm fine. I guess I'm just...You know what, I'm just gonna go home and rest for a bit." Boots walked off, still looking around. There was something going on and Boots was going to figure out what it was.
