"Today's dinner is delicious, isn't it Joan?" Joan's father asked.
Joan looked up "yes."
Joan looked at her parents over the dining table. Joan sat facing her parents, sighing internally, as they both attempted at initiating conversations.
Joan was in no mood.
Her talk with Hugh had already sapped her strength- she felt all sorts of bad emotions swirling amidst her heart. Was she a burden? Really? Did Hugh hate her?
Joan gulped, as mock horror hung over her head.
She looked at her parents. Should she tell them about the Billfield matter?
Joan shook her head. They would pass out from the apprehension-and they were already ageing.
And on top of that, they would get angry at her that she did not tell about this to them earlier, when the matter was fresh.
"The meat curry and rice taste so good" Joan's mother announced "and the bacon, my lord!"
Joan took a bite of the bacon , and ate the rice; indeed it tasted heavenly.
"Sorry for the interruption, but Sir George is here for dinner today" the butler said and moved aside.
George entered, and smiled at everyone.
Joan frowned. Her brother had showed his face after two weeks.
Joan's mother clasped her hands together "George! Wonderful to see you!"
"And you" George said and took a seat beside Joan "hello everyone."
George was served the dinner.
"Where were you for so long?" his father asked.
George took a bite of the bacon "caught up in my work. May I commend upon the taste of this bacon? It's so good."
"I missed you" his mother told and smiled a huge smile."Yes George, do come often" Joan said with a small smile.
"I'll try" he said and resumed his eating.
"I'm done" Joan said and stood "I'll meet you tomorrow morning George, I'm going to sleep now."
George nodded. He would usually stay overnights when he would come for dinners.Joan left, to bury herself in the velvety softness of her bed, before the fatigue surpassed the little power left in her.
