flood

you ever felt that spark light in your heart?
you ever felt the gathering excitement building?
like a rubber band winding taut
waiting to be snapped free
to release pent up energy

the flame slowly builds from a tiny spark
growing, increasing, blossoming
into a roaring desire
enveloping you
licking at each corner of your heart
snapping, crackling, popping

it consumes you
and you let it
like chugging an energy drink
adrenaline pumping through your veins
a dopamine hit

then you've surely felt the flood
quenching the fire
leaving black ash and lumps of wood
wet, dirty, smelly debris
like the remnants of your heart
after you got shot

pouring from the sky
a deluge
soaking everything in sight
drowning, suffocating, sinking
the energy disappears
as well as the heat

it is drowned, flooded, covered
its life has been extinguished
it is there no more

dripping from your eyelashes
your nose
your lips
your hair

completely wet
and slowly being crushed

how delightful a rain shower is
when it dampens the night
brings a chill
encourages the growth of mold and moss
decay
when it drowns you
spreads the filth of the extinguished fire
covers the stars with gloom

the drops hit your skin
each feeling like a strike to the softest portion of your heart
they pierce you cruelly

and again you are drowning
beneath the violent waves
of disappointment
