Iris slowly trudged up the stairs of the Astronomy tower. Usually she would hurry up but she was too busy thinking about the events that had happened that same day. Harry Potter was going to compete in the Triwizard competition. Iris couldn't help feeling bad for him. There were only two possible ways he could have put his name in the goblet, one, he could have asked one od the older kids to and two, someone would have put it in. Someone who wanted Harry to risk his life. Someome who wanted Harry dead. By the way Harry looked in the chamber that morning, Iris was pretty sure he was participating against his will.
When Iris reached the top of the staircase, she was really hoping she wouldn't see him that night. But unfortunately, he was there. He stood with his back facing Iris, peering down from the balcony. Iris couldn't help but feel sad, she really didn't expext him to say that. It still hurt her. Iris considered turning around and going back to her room but she stopped herself. Why should she miss the amazing sunset and night sky just because of a boy who called her a mudblood?!
Iris tip-toed to the opposite balcony from him. She tried to keep ask quiet as possible since she didn't want to talk to Draco. Thankfully she didn't make too much noice and she sat down. She stared up at the half visible crescent moom on the sky and watched slowly as stars began to pop out.
Her hair fell down onto her face. Iris sighed. Even though Draco said that to her, she couldn't help but want to talk to him. It was something she was getting used to and really enjoyed. She liked the way he talked with her. She remembered how surprised she was a few days ago when Draco fought with Ron and Harry.
It just wasn't like him to do that... Maybe he was allways mean to Harry and Ron but he never hurt Iris before And he had no reason to. Anger boiled inside her.
Why did he do that? I hadn't done anything wrong.....
"I, I thought we were friends..." She found herself whispering out loud, sniffing back a sob.
"And we are." He answered.
Iris whipped her head around and found her face centimeters away from Draco's face. She made the mistake of looking up at his eyes. They were filled with worry, but they were also a dark shade of grey. She felt tears fill her own eyes as she moved her eyes away from Draco's and onto the floor. From the coner of her eyes she could see that Draco was sitting cross legged on the floor next to her starring at her intently.
"If we were," She started, "You wouldn't have said that..." The tears she tried so hard to hold back, spilled. Draco bent down to meet her eyes but she just avoided them. So he picked her chin up gently and made her look at him.
"I-Iris..."
"I can't believe you called me that Draco..."
"I am-"
"Why? You were nice to me before. So why?" Iris whispered.
Draco slowly lifted his hand and placed it softly on Iris's face, wiping away her tears. In different circumstances this motion would have shocked her but she just continued crying. Draco removed his hand but patiently waited there for Iris to finish.
After a few minutes Iris stopped crying and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. She took a deep breath and turned towards the balcony, her back facing Draco. She watched the stars twinkle in the sky.
"Why?" Iris asked softly, still starring at the stars.
"I...Iris... I hate them. Potter and Weasley. They, we've been enemies ever since Potter turned down my invitation on being friends wih him during first year... I, when Weasley asked me if I liked you it just seemed..." He stopped and looked up at Iris who was starring at him, "I mean, it's not that I don't like you but...but, he, he meant it like..." Draco stuttered and covered his face with his hands.
Iris starred at him. She understoond what he meant. I mean if someone she despised so much asked her if she liked a boy, obviously she would say no. And for Draco calling her a mudblood was the easiest way for him.
Draco lookes up to meet her eyes. "Iris I am so-sorry..." He muttered. He said it like it was something he had never done before. Apologizing.
Iris looked into his eyes. She could tell he meant what he said. "It-It's fine..." she looked away, "And besides it isn't even true..."
Immediately after she said that, she realised her mistake. She looked carefully at Draco who was starring at her with his eyeborws narrowed in confusion.
"I, I meant..."
"Iris..."
"I, nothing. I said nothing."
"Iris, what do you mean it isn't even true?!"
"I,I..." She looked up at him. She knew she had to tell him.
Iris sighed, "I am not a mu-" She glanced at Draco who suddenly seemed interested on the wooden floor, "MUGGLE born..." Draco looked up.
"Then, then... What are you?!"
"I'm a, a pureblood..." Draco widened his eyes.
"Your..."
"Yes, Draco. I am adopted."
"Do, do you know who..."
"Yes." Iris sighed.
"Iris.." Iris looked up. "May I know what is your real, last name?!"
"Y-yes." Iris took a deep breath, "Dumbledore..."
