(This is the most symbolic shit I've ever written I'm sorry)
Just can't believe that I did not see
But ain't it funny how we grew up so close
Juliet knew Romeo ever since they were children. They would always play together, using every opportunity they could to be in the same room. She remembers sliding down the slide with her in his lap, laughing as he holds on to her. Now, as a teenager, she wishes he'd do that again. She dreams about him every night, holding her pillow tight as she wishes it was him. She has always wanted to say something about her feelings. But something holds her back, something she doesn't know anything about.
I'd know you better than all of the rest then
At school, she is considered one of the mutuals of everyone. She is not popular, yet not a loner. She is somewhere in between. And next to her is Maven as she brings him into her world. She makes sure to invite him everywhere she goes, keeping him close to her. Because she has a feeling deep inside of her that makes her feel that in another life, she accidentally let him go. But Maven enjoys being next to her, it makes him feel special. Even though she is just another student, to him, she feels like a celebrity.
Changing into people who may never meet again
But Maven finds her to be just like a friend, somebody who has helped him ever since he was a child. With his stepmother still in his life more than ever, Maven doesn't seem to enjoy her presence as much as he did before. Mare has always been the nicest person to him, but she's never crossed the line from nice to beautifully nice.
And so Maven started hanging out with over friends, along with Mare. Another one of those friends was you. Yes, you. The "library nerd" in the school. Mare was happy that he was making friends. But he almost started to hang out with you more than her. During lunch, Mare watches as he sits with you. She can't say if it made her mad. But she can admit that her soul got drenched with the green demon of envy.
They never see the real me, the Cinderella
Mare wanted to be you. She saw the way Maven looks at you. But Maven doesn't love you, does he? He loves her, right?
She holds her scissors tight in her hand, cutting her paper in the shape of a heart. Her friends who sit next to her in lunch look at her awkwardly, but don't question it. She is quiet that day, keeping the twin blades close to her. She just stares at you in gym, wondering how you got all of the love and attention and she didn't.
And once upon a true love that was long long ago
When Cinderella first met Prince Charming, it was in the hallways of the school. You always walked with your textbooks in your hands, as you have too many to fit in your backpack. You were walking past when a piece of paper fell from between the papers of your textbook. Quickly, before it could get stomped on, you went to pick it up. But there was already another hand on it. You look up, getting greeted by a soft pair of brown eyes. Those eyes suddenly moved, something in them changing. Cal smiles as he grabs the paper, giving it to you.
"Thank you," you say to him. He just continues smiling, his heart beating faster than it ever has before. Before you can turn away, he pulls out a light purple flower with two leaves and offers it to you. You smile, blushing a bit. You can't think. So you say the first thing that comes to mind before you become late for class.
"No thanks, but that's very romantic." And then Cal watched you run away, glancing at your glass slippers. How badly does he want to grab one and drag you towards him, keeping your slipper for himself.
