Cecile POV:

To say that his house was gorgeous was an understatement. When people looked for furniture there was always the sample room. Well, this is where they came to take those pictures. He led me into the living room tossing his jacket onto the couch. I tried not to gape as I sat gently on the couch. I always felt awkward in other people's houses. I never knew how to sit.

" You want any water or anything?" I shook my head and he nodded before disappearing into the kitchen. Great, now I couldn't talk. I could think, right? I glanced around the room taking in the obscure furniture and the way everything seemed to have a perfect place. I stood, unable to sit any longer. Dragging my hand across the oak table I neared a glass statue in the corner. It looked as if it were made with water. Gently, I reached forward, mesmerized by the watery statue.

" Hi," someone chirped behind me. I gasped stumbling backward and almost falling on my butt. I caught myself and turned. Looking at the stranger with my neck turning red. It was a girl maybe 2 or 3 years younger than me, probably 13 or so. She had a bright smile and violet eyes. Her curious eyes watched me with amusement. " Gracy said you brought a human."

" Yeah," I chuckled. "Gracy?"

" Oh, that's my brother. When were younger I wanted a sister really really bad so for my birthday he said he would pretend to be my sister for a day? I called him Gracy. He doesn't like when I call him that but I don't care." I laughed again.

" Are you staying with us? I saw you in training. The way you yelled at Jaxon. That was so cool. No one ever yells at him. A lot of my friends think he's cute but I think he's a jackass."

" Lilly," Ace came out of the kitchen, holding a spatula. His tone held warning. She rolled her eyes.

" Gracy... you say it all the time." Lilly and I broke into a fit of laughter as his face contorted in anger and he sighed angrily, shaking his spatula.

" You look like a mad cook," I snickered. Lilly chuckled harder, falling onto the floor. Ace scowled, a small smile pulling at his lips.

" Whatever, I'm making lasagna. And you're not getting any." Lilly froze.

" No, I want some."

" Nu-uh."  She made a pouty face staring at his unmoving face. I pushed his shoulder a little.

" Aww c'mon. It was just a joke." He looked at me and sighed exasperatedly.

" Fine," he turned back into the kitchen.  I looked back at Lilly she was watching me expectantly as if she knew what I planned I do. I smirked.

" Thanks,"  I called.

" No problem." Lilly gave a muffled chuckle.

" Gracey..." I whispered. We broke into laughter.

" I HEARD THAT!"

Dinner was a quiet affair. Though quiet may not have been the best word to describe it. The minute he set the food down Lilly began wolfing down the lasagna and was closely followed by Zander. Shrugging I ate normally hoping that I could snag seconds before I ate it all.

I was just about to start my second serving when a knock sounded on the door. Ace' s head snapped up to look at the door his face stuffed with lasagna. Lilly shrugged at him and he sighed getting up and wiping tomato sauce from his face. I kept chewing till I heard muffled footsteps and an angry shout. Footsteps echoed in the hall and an angry Jaxon appeared at the doorway. I rolled my eyes. Oh, it was him. His hair was matted to his forehead, his shirt sticking to his muscular.... very average chest. I had to admit. He was kinda hot.

" You come for Ace's lasagna? It's pretty great," I stated, not bothering to look up from my food. I cared about it more than Jazzy. He growled, his fists clenching.

" Grandfather's looking for you. I came to get you."

" I'll come back after dinner," I responded passively. Ace watched the interaction, it was clear he was holding back a laugh. I smirked.

" No, you're coming now." I swallowed the last bite of my lasagna and shot him an icy glare.

" I know you're not well accustomed to gratitude or kindness but I,"  I gestured for Lilly to follow me, "Am going to help these nice people clean up dinner."  Lilly followed me wordlessly to the kitchen. I heard Ace burst into the laughter the minute I set down the plate. How I loved being badass.

Jaxon POV:

My grandfather was worried. That wasn't a lie. But I hadn't told her about the gnawing feeling in my stomach. How angry I had been once her words had sunken in. How long I looked for her in the woods, the sheets of rain doing nothing to wash off his worry. After going door to door someone finally told me that they had seen Ace with a girl. I sighed. Ace. Thank god.

Ace didn't like me too much but we had a mutual understanding as leaders of our blood. We often taught together. He was a good person. Better than me, at least. I knocked wearily on his door. When he opened the door he was smiling. I knew Arista was there. Her optimism was impossible to ignore.

" Is Arista here?" I asked, my voice a whisper. He nodded his eyes glancing at me, trying to identify something. I tried to get into his mind but he wouldn't let me. I wondered what he was thinking. Letting me walk in I strode into the kitchen, the kitchen from which I could hear the faint sound of laughter.

" You come for Ace's lasagna? It's pretty great," she stated.

" Grandfather's looking for you. I came to get you." That was a lie. I hadn't told him. After she had stormed out I dismissed class, kicked a wall, and then went looking for her. I mind linked her when it was starting to get dark and she was nowhere to be found.

" I'll come back after dinner."

" No, you're coming now."

" I know you're not well accustomed to gratitude or kindness but I," she gestured for Lilly to follow her, "Am going to help these nice people clean up dinner." I coudl hear Ace's muffled laughter as the two girls left. I rubbed my forehead and turned to Ace. Now that the worry is gone my clothes were getting uncomfortable. I pulled the soaked cloth off of me.

" I don't think that's gonna work," Ace chuckled. I gave him a questioning glance. " She's not gonna forgive you."

I sighed. " I know."

" You care for her, don't you."

" No," I snapped. " The Council just put me in charge of keeping her safe."

" Yeah, well you're not doing a good job of that."

" Whaddya mean?"

" Ask her." I rolled my eyes as we both shifted uncomfortably. Luckily, Cecile stepped out from the kitchen with an impassive Lilly following her. She stopped in front of Ace and thanked him not sparing me a single glance. I sighed and followed her out the door. Ace closed the door behind us. We walked side by side, with me slightly ahead.

" How did Ace find you?"

" He found me in the woods."

" Were you...in danger."

" Why would you care."

Cecile POV:

I can practically see his mind racing. His usually neutral expression drawing into shock. He didn't reply. Instead, he turned and started walking again. Of course. What did I expect? An apology? A sorry? A friendship? Only pretty girls were friends with guys like him. Only pretty girls would ever have guy friends. I had learned that lesson long ago. I didn't know why I would think it would be anything different in a place like this. With a person like this.

I looked up, watching him walk away towards the same building where I had met the Council. I sighed. He really wouldn't give up so I might I well stop trying. I remember that little water girl. I almost feel like her. Stuck, frozen in water. All alone in a place, I didn't belong.
