Awake

He was breathing normally, but was still unconscious. From one of the corners of the room, Shadow was watching him, waiting for him to wake up. He was on guard duty because Tails was talking to the Chaotix, Knuckles was hunting down his not-girlfriend Rouge, Blaze was seeing the world for a bit, and Sonic was preparing to raid Eggman's base.

He was just about ready to go searching for Omega when he saw a turquoise energy begin to glow from the sleeping body. His eyes flew open and blades of turquoise scarred the wall nearby.

"WATCH OUT!" he shouted.

He looked around the room very panicked. He was promptly laid back down by a hand. He followed it to see one of his friends.

"Shadow," he said, "the future is in danger!"

"Silver," Shadow responded, "listen, when you came through your time portal thing, you looked like you were under attack. What happened?"

Silver reached back to his memory. Red robed figures; white armored killers; screaming ships; he was finally able to re-piece everything together.

"It's something terrible. I need to tell everyone."

Shadow sighed, "Give me fifty-three seconds."

He then vanished. Three seconds later, Sonic charged into the room. Twelve seconds: Knuckles entered with Rouge. Twenty-eight seconds: Blaze arrived. Forty-four seconds: Tails and the Chaotix arrived. Fifty-three seconds: Shadow reappeared.

"Now," Shadow said, "what happened?"

Silver took a deep breath, and began: something terrible was coming. Doctor Eggman would soon be able to contact life outside their solar system. Once they arrive, they come to a mostly mutual understanding. But after they win, and destroy the Freedom Fighter, Eggman was content while his allies weren't. Eggman was imprisoned for trying to stop them from doing what even he would never do: sell the inhabitants into slavery. He broke the deal with his allies and a war broke out. But his armies weren't a match for his former allies' forces, and he was defeated promptly. He wasn't banished for his treachery, nor was he executed. Instead he was frozen in carbonite, to eventually be awoken from his sleep. Many citizens of the planet openly rebelled against this new authority, but they were fighting a losing battle. By the time Silver came around, the entire world was colonized by other beings. And the natives? They were either in slavery, fighting the losing battle, or dead.

"That's bad," Sonic said after Silver had finished, "what was the name of Eggman's allies?"

"I heard their name in passing," he replied, "mostly in fearful whispers. His allies, or more specifically, ally was known as the Galactic Empire."

The room was filled with a fearful silence. They had to strike soon, otherwise they'd lose. Sonic still had one lingering question though.

"What did you mean," he said, "when you came through the portal and said 'find the Rebel Alliance'?"

"They were the only fighting force against the Empire," he said, "But at some time, within the next few years, they were destroyed. Mostly. Very few survived and continued to fight and recruit to their cause."

Everyone was stunned. How would they be able to find a group that they had no clue to find?
