Chapter 23 | Man's Best Friend with Benefits [ Hands Off ]

"VICS WERE TORN PRETTY BAD." Sam stated, walking alongside the scientist while Clarissa struggled to keep up with their pace and jogged a bit in between steps. Because apparently to her, Sam decided to be suck up and took advantage of his long legs to brisk walk.

Clarissa insisted that she'd tag along Sam, since she was still mad at Dean. Joining Dean who was going with Portia to investigate further about James' nightmares would only make things awkward.

"Like someone shredded them with their own bare hands," the scientist considered jokingly. He laughed, "like that could happen."

"Who knows?" Clarissa smirked.

"Ed." He called, entering the room. A man in his 50's turned around from arranging files in a drawer. "Ed Stoltz. He's lead on the case. Sir, this is Special Agent Kieth and Special Agent Taylor."

Clarissa brought out her badge as Sam did the same and the officer gave a slight nod. "Josh here tells me you don't have much going on," Sam mentioned, gesturing to the scientist smiling idly.

"Yeah. Isolated parts of the city, vics who meant nothing to nobody."

"Right. Well my partner and I had a look at the crime scenes—" Sam said, but was rudely interrupted by Ed's snide comment, "things must be really slow at the Bureau."

Clarissa felt her gaze harden and glared daggers at Ed. She wished she could beat him up right there and then. But of course she can't— she has to maintain her prim  and proper image. She's such an elegant lady, you see— born with the poise.

Ed smiled smugly and continued, "locations have already been knocked down."

Sam pursed his lips, digging his hands inside his breast pocket and brought out a a bloodied fabric in a plastic ziplock, "Well we did manage to find this piece of fabric."

Clarissa watched amusedly as Ed's grin tugged down to a frown, "things get overlooked, sometimes. It happens. Why don't you run the blood—could be the vic's or the doer's. Let's see if we get a match."

Ed analysed the fabric inside the ziplock before giving it to Josh, who took it and walked away, already knowing what to do. "A witness did mention seeing a man in a suit and a white shirt leaving the area, so—"

"You didn't mention a witness in your report." Clarissa narrowed her eyes at the still-cocky Ed. "Anything else?"

"We'll get back to you on the lab work. So if that's all—"

"Sure, but this witness—"

"That's all What was said, Agent Smiths." He snapped. "We don't really have a lot here, okay? We'll be in touch." With that, he gave them a smile, ( more of a forced one for Clarissa ) and went back to his seat and carried on with his tasks, ignoring the two.

Sam offered a tight smile in return before sneaking a glance at Clarissa who was gritting her teeth. Sam pat her back, making sure she was keeping her temper in tact, before leaving the officer's stuffy and suffocating room.

"Rissa!" Sam exclaimed, his tone tired, "just go with Dean and Portia, already!"
