Soul mates. You'd think that in a universe so large, so expansive, that soul mates would be common.
But, that's never the case.
In our universe, there's people who fall in love, and then there's the soul mates.
People who you can't deny belong together.
People who would do anything for each other.
People who are meant to be.
Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has a soul mate.
In fact, almost nobody has a soul mate.
That's why I've only ever seen two cases.
I'll tell you about the first case I saw now.
I will not tell you their names, lest they come back to haunt me.
But I will tell you their story.
They were the most unlikely pair.
Best friends in every way.
Yet enemies at the same time.
He, a soldier, brave and loyal. He would stop at nothing to make sure criminals got what they deserved. He was kind hearted, and was nicknamed 'The Kind Lion Of The Universe'.
She, a thief. An assassin. Sneaky, cunning, and distrustful. She hung around in alleyways, and wouldn't hesitate to destroy all that came in her way. She had a heart of ice, and was nicknamed 'The Shadow Of Ice'.
Their meeting was... Unconventional in love stories to say the least.
For you see, not all know their soul mate when they see them.
"Come back here theif! " The old baker cried, waving his cane at her. She merely laughed, and disappeared into the shadows.
"What seems to be the matter sir?" The Lion asked, a kind smile on his face.
"Ah, it's that damned Shadow again. She keeps stealin' my bread." The old baker replied.
"Don't worry, Ill make sure that if she does come back, she'll pay." The Lion helped the old baker back into his chair. "I'll see you tommorow, sir."
"Goodbye son. Have a nice day." The old baker shook his head when The Lion had left. "That boys a nice lad, why don't he have a lady of his own?"
When Shadow at last came to the rotting old door, she sighed as she opened it with a creak.
"Mother! Father! I'm home!" She called, getting no reply, as usual. She crossed the dark room, and lit a small fire in the fireplace. "There, not so dark now, is it?"
She whirled around, her black cloak swooshing around. She stopped, and stood in front of the two skeletons.
"You know, Mother, I saw a very peculiar thing today. It was a wanted sign, with my name on it! They couldn't even get my face! It was hilarious!" The young girl laughed hysterically, the light from the fire making her look eerie. "I miss you and Father, you could've stayed! But no matter, for I have you to myself now! No stupid work, or needing to run errands! Now you can stay with me forever!"
"I had the most peculiar feeling in my heart today, Father, you wouldn't believe it! It felt like someone was pulling my heart right out of my damn chest! Isn't that insane!" She giggled. "But you know, Father, when I left the market, it stopped. Isn't that peculiar? I do love the word peculiar, peculiar peculiar peculiar. It just sounds fascinating, doesn't it?"
