Today Nick and Jeff are finally going on their second date. The first date was really fun when they went to a concert together, but today they are going ice skating. Jeff is really excited because ice skating reminds him of the long winters he used to spend with his family at their lake house mansion. Nick is less excited though. He never ice skated before and he is scared that he’s going to make a fool of himself in front of Jeff.
“C’mon Nicky. It will be so much fun!” Jeff’s cheeks are red with excitement. He pulls his beanie over his head and slips a pair of woollen gloves on his hands before he grabs his boyfriend’s hands.
“Careful Jeff. I don’t want to fall already before we even got onto the ice,” Nick giggles. On the skates they both walk towards the ice.
“I’ll go first,” Jeff says as he steps onto the ice. “Okay. Give me your hand.” Jeff reaches out to grab Nick’s hand. “And now put one foot on the ice, carefully.” Nick does what his boyfriend tells him. Jeff grabs his other hand too and Nick puts his other foot on the ice as well.
“Oh god,” Nick whispers as he realises how slippery the ice actually is.
“You’ll be fine,” Jeff chuckles. There is a barrier around the ice. “Come let’s skate to that side of the barrier.” Jeff points towards a place where there are less people. He skates backwards in front of Nick, so he can still hold his hands. “Just put one foot in front of the other.” Nick mumbles something back in respond but Jeff knows that it’s best not to say anything back. Nick slowly puts his left foot first before he slides his right foot on the ice. “See. You’re moving.” Slowly but securely Jeff and Nick get closer to the barrier.
-
“Pfff,” Nick breaths out when he grabs hold of the iron pole. “I though ice skating would be difficult but it’s worse than I expected it to be. How about I stay here for a bit while you go ahead and skate.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. I’m good here.” Nick leans against the barrier awkwardly because he is scared to slip and fall. “Besides, I prefer to watch my handsome boyfriend skate than I go skate myself.”
“Uhm okay.” Jeff smiles and skates away from Nick. Most people are skating in a clockwise circle, so Jeff follows their example. Every time he passes Nick he pulls off one of his little ‘tricks’ like skating backwards, causing Nick to laugh every time.
“Common Nick. Join me!” Jeff yells when he passes Nick again.
“No thanks. I’m good here watching you be all charming and adorable when you try to show off.”
-
When Jeff passes again he tries to jump in the air and do a spin, but somewhere mid-air one of his skate’s blades gets stuck with his laces and before he even realises what happens he is already with his face on the ice.
“Oh my god!” Nick cries out. “Jeff are you okay?” He kneels down to the blonde, who is covering his face with his arms.
“Ugh,” is the only response he receives. Jeff removes his arms away from his face. His cheeks are red of embarrassment and shock.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. My knee is a bit painful, but expect for that the only thing that’s really damages is on my ego,” Jeff mumbles and a slight smile appears on his face.
“How about we leave the ice and go get some hot chocolate in that shack over there,” Nick chuckles and nods towards a little wooden shack next to the ice.
“Sounds like a plan.”
-
“Two hot chocolates,” the waiter says and places two large cups of chocolate and whipped cream and marshmallows in front of the pair. They moved to the shack and are now sitting in front of the fireplace on a small leather loveseat with a little side table in front of it, with the two hot chocolates on it.
“Thank you,” Jeff and Nick say both at the same time. Nick takes the little spoon and scoops up a bit of whipped cream before he puts it in my mouth.
“God this tastes really good,” Nick mumbles. Jeff giggles and also takes a bit of his own whipped cream before he scoops a few of the mini marshmallows up.
“So nice,” he moans with his cheeks filled with the half-melted sticky candy. There is a silent moment of hot chocolate appreciation, when Jeff mumbles: “I’m sorry that this date didn’t go as planned. I thought that it would be really romantic to take you ice skating but…”
“No it’s my fault. If I wasn’t so scared to go on the ice, we would’ve had an even better time,” Nick interrupts the blonde.
“It’s not your fault. I knew that you never ice skated before and I thought that it would be like one of those cute movies where I take your hand and we would carefully ice skate together. I’m sorry.”
“I thought it was cute though, the way you tried to show off – and tripped over.” Jeff moans in disagreement. “I loved watching you do what you like and I love doing new stuff that make you happy. As far as I’m concerned, even though I don’t know that much about relationships, relationships are about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying out stuff the other person likes. That is what we have done today. Besides that, I’m happy with every minute I can spend with you.” Nick’s cheeks turn light pink after he realised what he said and how corny it sounded.
“Aw,” Jeff giggles. “You’re so cute.” He strokes the older boy’s cheek before he places his hand at the back of his neck and brings his face closer to his. He gently brushes his lips against Nick’s before he places his lips over them. The kiss is short but really sweet. Nick slowly pulls away and has a slight blush upon his cheeks.
“Woah,” he breaths out before he moves closer and wraps an arm around Jeff's waist.
