Epilogue (Part-A)
Swara came out of the washroom and saw Sanskar sitting on the bed, engrossed in some case files. Noticing his distraction, she made a sad pout and plopped down on the other side of the bed, her face gloomy.
Frustrated by Sanskar's lack of attention, Swara puffed her cheeks and huffed in annoyance. She sat with her back against the bed's headboard, her legs stretched out in front of her. Gently resting her hand on her small, almost invisible baby bump, she began to speak to their unborn child with a cute yet forlorn expression.
Swara, caressing her stomach: "Baby, you know this Duniya is very kharab and zalim." ("Baby, you know this world is very bad and cruel.")
Sanskar, hearing her dramatic monologue, chuckled softly. He glanced over at Swara, who was deeply engaged in her one-sided conversation with their baby.
Sanskar, laughing a little: "And why so, my baby's mother, is this Duniya kharaab and zalim?"
Swara looked at him with a frown and an angry pout: "Because in this Duniya, I only have one husband, but even then, the people here never let him take a little break to spend time with his coming child and gorgeous wife." (Self-praising is a must.)
Sanskar understood she was referring to his work and felt a pang of guilt. For the past two weeks, he had been continuously busy with surgeries and emergency cases. Swara hadn't disturbed him or complained, but he knew she missed his presence and wanted him beside her.
Sanskar noticed the tears welling up in Swara's eyes, though she was trying to mask them with her dramatic speech. He could see how much she was holding back, not wanting to disturb him. Closing his files, he scooted closer and took her into a side hug. Swara rested her head on his shoulder, and Sanskar kissed her forehead, gently caressing her stomach.
Sanskar, holding her hand: "I'm sorry, Swara. I know I haven't been able to give you proper time for the last two weeks. I'm sorry."
Swara, sniffing a little: "I'm sorry, Sanskar. I know you're busy, and it's okay, but I just felt lonely when you weren't with me or didn't spend much time with me these past two weeks. I know everyone is taking good care of me, but it's just..." She choked up at the end, and Sanskar pulled her into a tighter embrace. Swara began to weep silently.
After about ten minutes of silence, Sanskar looked down and found Swara peacefully asleep in his arms, her tears staining her cheeks.
Sanskar, lightly pecking Swara's forehead: "I promise, Swara, from now on I will not let you feel lonely. I will be here for you and won't bring my hospital work home," he vowed as he made a decision.
After making sure Swara was comfortable and asleep, Sanskar went downstairs and saw everyone in the hall enjoying evening tea. Sapna noticed him coming.
Sapna: "Bhai, come join us. Do you want tea? And where is Swara?"
Sanskar: "Yes, Sapna, make one cup for me. Swara is sleeping."
RV, looking worried: "Why is she sleeping? She never naps in the evening."
Sanskar, running a hand through his hair, explained what had happened in their room. Hearing this, Sumi said:
Sumi: "Sanskar, don't worry. It's just her pregnancy hormones causing her to be a bit emotional."
Sanskar: "No, Maa, it's my fault. I know she's already sensitive, and now with her pregnancy, she's becoming even more fragile. I should have considered this earlier."
Shekhar: "So, what have you decided?"
Sanskar: "Papa, as I'm the senior doctor and also the owner of our hospital, the burden is heavier. I'm thinking of resigning from one of the posts. But I'm a bit conflicted about which one. If I resign as a senior doctor, it would be impossible because it's my passion. If I resign as the owner, we will need to find a suitable replacement. I can't risk the hospital's reputation, which Dad (Ram) built."
