Lilo
--
She felt the small grains of sand stick to her feet as she walked up the beach, wringing her hair. She felt the drops slide down her body. She felt Boo's eyes on her skin.
With as much grace she could muster, she lifted the needle off of her Elvis record she had playing on her portable player. She spun, as gently as she could, looking at Boo from beneath lowered lashes.
Boo giggled amid her awed expression.
"What?" Lilo asked, confused.
"You look ridiculous." She smiled.
Realizing to what was being referred, her slick walk up the beach, Lilo laughed as well. "Shhh, it was cool."
More laughter. "The coolest."
The smaller girl fanned out her blanket, letting it lay as flat as possible on the lumpy beach. She sank down, Stretching out as much as she could.
Did she mention that the girl was wearing only unbuttoned jean shorts and a blue bikini ? Well she should have, as it was a more defining feature of her pale skinned body at the moment. Lilo followed suit, separated by the record player.
Not knowing what to do, she laid back, imitating the other girl. It wasn't long before she was asleep, snoring softly on the beach.
--
Her eyes snapped open, slowly then all at once. She expected the sunlight to be overwhelming but the light was dimming as evening began to overcome her.
Boo was gone.
The towel wasn't there either, causing her to sit up with a start.
"Wha-?" She looked down at her own chest, seeing a paper folded up, tucked in on the left side of her top, over her heart.
She hastily pulled it out, infolding the paper so quick it nearly ripped.
Ali smiled at the otherwise fearless girls self-doubt, closing the gap between them.
What a crazy question: Of course she trusted this girl.
Without hesitation, she closed the gap; and they kissed.
She hadn't learned any new tricks it seemed, stuffing the paper down her shirt twice, perhaps it just was a place Boo had really taken a liking to.
The words rung in Lilo's mind, and they kissed, sending her into a run. Well almost, she had to quickly loop the player beneath her arm. After that though, she was off at a dead run up to the house where she suspected the girl had gone off too.She ran down roads and up hills, body tiring but never letting herself slow. Her legs pumped hard, until she slammed hard into Jumba, nearly dropping her precious cargo.
"Hello, Lilo." The large alien said, lifting his hand in greeting.
She looked up at him. "You're back in town!" She exclaimed. "So, what's up?" She used this time to catch her breath, placing her hand on her hip.
"You in hurry? I was going to beach to swim. You seen Pleakley?"
A smile spread across Lilo's reddened face. "So made up then! That's great, haven't seen 'em. I'll let out a shout when I do."
"No."
Lilo's smile faltered.
"I want to make him not mad, but he not listen." His expression had gone from glad to see her to sad they spoke.
"It's alright, it'll all work out." She patted him on the back.
"Thank you."
Not a second later her arms and legs were pumping. She was at the home stretch, just up the drive. She slowed for the sharp upwards slope, but the intent was still there.
She was careful, opening and closing the door carefully to not disturb Nani, who she didn't exactly need storming in all over the place. She was great, but has never exactly had the best timing in the world.
She slipped through the house, peeking in the different rooms, unsure of where Boo was chilling.
She opened the door to the spare room, Boo's room, and saw her. She was sitting on the corner of her unmade bed, staring longingly at the closed closet door.
"Do you trust me." One step. Two steps. Into her room, door silently creaking as she went.
Four steps. Five steps. She was standing in front of the bed. Boo stood. Lilo's voice had wavered uncertainty.
Her heart beat was louder than Nani's tv, loud enough that that was all she could hear. Imagine if Boo could hear, she couldn't, could she? Cold skin grazed her exposed wrist. The shorter girl, chin tilted upwards, connected their lips.
It lasted only a second but it was sweet, and soft. Lilo had kissed a lot of girls, but this one was different. She could taste the salt from the ocean and... strawberries? The feeling was overwhelming, and they were left looking at each other.
"Of course I trust you."
