Peter finally returned with the Lost Boys, bringing an entire deer with them, and bringing the bloody beast inside with them, dropping it at your feet. You looked down at the poor animal. They didn't even bother to cut it properly... An entire deer! Really? Skin and all. Freshly killed. Fucking hell.
You looked at Peter and furrowed your brows. "Did you have to bring it inside?" You already felt like a nagging mother, but really?
"Yep! Oh and, what did you do in here?" Peter glanced around the room.
It had been cleaned up and you tried your best to make it somewhat modernized, which was obviously challenging. You made a sort of kitchen area by taking a large log that you found outside and lied it down on it's side to be used as a table, and you tied multiple sticks together with long blades of grass to make little counters. You made them as sturdy as you could, but they would most likely collapse if a human were to apply pressure. Maybe with more time you could make them better.
"I just thought I'd try to decorate a bit?" You shrugged. "It looks alright." Peter said, still looking at your simple creations.
"Well anyways, there's blood all over the floor now..." Peter didn't seem to see why this was an issue.
"Peter, it's going to start to smell! Not to mention it's unsanitary. Go fill something with water so I can clean the deer before using it to cook, and then clean this blood up."
You cursed at yourself in your mind, sounding like one of those irritated mothers that chastise kids for bringing in animals or making a mess. You sighed as Peter groaned and walked out to fill something with water.
"Geeeeez! Moms are so not fun!" The boys giggled and copied Peter. You simply stood and looked at the mess of blood on the floor around the dead deer. It's lifeless face was unsettling and you we're ready for it to be food and not just some animal on the floor.
Peter came back in with a bucket full of water that he got from a stream. You had already seen how clean the water looked, so you weren't exactly worried about where the water was from. You began to skin the deer, all by yourself. You we're annoyed that no one offered to help since they have obviously done this before or else they wouldn't have brought back a deer. They would have brought something that they knew how to make since they had to have eaten to live all this time.
You looked at the boys and smiled. "Do one of you want to help me cook? I would appreciate it." They all seemed rather skeptical and unwilling.
"Um... I can help." Slightly spoke up, speaking softly.
"Could you? Thanks! You know how to prepare deer meat, right?" Slightly nodded. You knew they we're experienced in this sort of stuff. They did know how to hunt after all. You had him help you cut the meat that you would use and the others helped clean up.
The little fox boy helped season the meat with things you found outside that you knew for sure were safe to eat. Then you took the meat and put it on a large stick that you had above a fire that you made outside. Later you would make some sort of oven for cooking inside, but you hadn't managed to do that yet. That would take a while. Is that even a mom's job? Um.. No? People usually buy ovens. Oh well...
The deer meat was finally finished and you brought it inside, setting it down on the log table thing that you put inside. Everyone sat around the table, ready to eat.
You were weirdly nervous as to what everyone would say about your food. It looked decent. You weren't used to cooking with a simple fire, so it was a bit of a challenge. And it didn't seem to have much of a smell other than smoke. You we're more worried about the taste though. Hopefully it wouldn't taste like straight smoke.
You had hoped someone else would start eating first and complement the cooking, but everyone, including Peter and even Slightly who helped you cook, seemed unsure as to whether it would taste good.
You personally weren't feeling too picky since you had been hungry for quite some time. You ended up being the first to take a bite and HOLY SHIT YOU CAN COOK!
You obviously weren't about to complement yourself because it seems weird to do that, but you we're quick to eat almost all of your food before anyone else ate a single bite. They we're still unsure, even after seeing you enjoy your food. They assumed you we're just really hungry and didn't care.
You glanced up and noticed that no one wanted to eat. They all looked at the food and picked at it. Peter leaned back and looked around, not even wanting to look at the food. Do people just not like eating what their mom cooks? It seems like that sort of thing happens a lot unless the food is takeout.
"Aren't you guys gonna eat?" You questioned. "Uh... No, we actually aren't hungry." One of them mumbled. You furrowed your brow.
"Me and slightly took the time to cook this for you guys, so you should eat." You looked at Slightly. "Come on. You helped cook too. Why not eat some and show that it isn't so bad?"
Slightly hung his head a bit to hide his face but took a bite of the meat anyways. He lifted his head and looked at the others, nodding slightly. "It's... Actually really good." He continued to eat and the others followed, followed by mumbles and nods of approval. Peter even ate a bite and his eyes seemed to light up.
Well! At least you can do that. Though you aren't sure your all that excited about doing this every day and doing everything else mothers have to do. You also don't want to deal with the awkwardness of Peter being the 'father' of this 'family'. But for now, you just need a nap. Making furniture and cooking wore you out as it was. After eating, you really just want to lie down.
You got up and walked to Peter's room and lied down on your pallet. You still weren't sure when you we're going to get your own bed, but you didn't care at the moment. You let yourself eventually fall asleep.
