Why would Lucius hand the diary to Ginny when Ron was closer to Harry and he could have put it into Ron’s cauldron?

Well, there are many reasons that I think Lucius would do this, but first let me state that Ron did not have a cauldron, Ginny only had one because she had just bought one seeing as she is a first year. That aside, we know Lucius Malfoy is a more traditional being which could also lead him to being sexist. He could have given it to Ginny because he thought that it being a diary, a boy wouldn’t want it but a girl would. Also we saw how Ron reacted when he saw it. He was skeptical and untrusting, he wouldn’t have touched it and probably would have just thrown it out. Ginny, on the other hand, was ignorant of the dangers. Lucius would also know of the trio’s ability to stop danger, so he wouldn’t want to have someone Harry was too close to in possession of the diary because they would have a better chance of stopping it sooner, but by keeping it to affecting the best friend’s sister, Harry would still try to save her but his life would be more at risk. I don’t think Lucius’ decision to give Ginny Weasley the diary was a spur of the moment decision, I think he carefully planned out who the diary would be planted on.

I am so sorry I haven’t updated in forever! The end of the school year killed me with exams, but I am now on summer break so I will hopefully have more time to write!
