Hey! I'm back with chapter two! Enjoy!
Lyra
I had to go home to get my clothes, and other important things. I told my father that I stayed at Marley's house, because I lost track of time, and didn't want to bother him. He didn't seem drunk because he was okay with it. Boy was I wrong. He walked to his room, as if everything was fine. As I was getting ready to leave the house he grabbed my hair and pulled me backwards. I lost my balance and fell into a lamp. It shattered as it hit the floor. I scrambled to get up. Then ran out the door. He continued to chase after me. 'BANG!' I heard the shot before I felt it. White hot pain ran up and down my side. I gasped. I hit the ground with unrelenting force. Groaning I attempted to crawl away. That made the pain only worse. Then I heard hope. Sirens, I was going to be saved. I closed my eyes. I could hear my own ragged breathing. "Put your hands up!"
"Lyra!" I heard Kain yell, It however was muffled. I felt someone picking me up. Everything went numb. And the world went black.
Kain
When I saw Lyra, my entire world crashed. She was on the ground, bleeding out. I remembered how she was gasping for breath. She seemed disoriented too. Everything was just a blur. They were taking Lyra into surgery. She lost a lot of blood, They said.
I loved her so much. She's my best friend. I hope that she makes it through this. Marley, Ranea, and Jax are at the hospital too. I called them, telling them about what happened...Well my mom told them, I was too torn up. I still am. A doctor came over to us. "Are you the family of Lyra Summers?" he asked.
"Were the only family she has," My mom said. The doctor let pity flash through his eyes, before his expression went back to being blank. "Lyra made it through surgery. There were some...complications, however she pulled through. She is in the ICU, two may see her at a time," He said. My mom decided to let Jax, Marley, and Ranea go first. Marley went by herself and Jax and Ranea with each other. After they left, My mom and I went into her room. She was hooked up to many machines. I almost cried at the sight. Her normally sun kissed skin was pale, and she had dark circles under her eyes. "She'll pull through this, she's a strong girl," My mom said. I knew she was trying to comfort me. I sat in the chair on Lyra's bedside. My mom pulled up a chair. I reached out and gently grabbed her hand. It was limp in mine. I let out a choked sob.
"I can't believe that anyone could be so cruel as to shoot their own daughter," I cried out softly. "It's horrible,"
"I know sweetie, I know," My mom murmured softly. "But she's in our care now, and I know for a fact that she will be well taken care of, I can promise you that much," She continued in her soft voice.
Over the course of the next few weeks my mom and I visited Lyra. We would talk to her and my mom would bring new flowers when the old ones died. I waited and waited for her to wake up. The doctors said there was a chance that she wouldn't wake up. I refused to believe them. I knew she'd wake up, she's strong.

I slowly began to open my eyes. I was in a room with a white ceiling. I looked around. I saw Kain and his mom. Groaning I attempted to sit up, which alerted Kain who opened his eyes and looked over to me. "Mom, mom...go get a doctor, Lyra's awake," I was surprised at his level headedness. A doctor came in along with Kain's mom. "Hello I am Doctor Bluestein," He said handing me a glass of water. I took a drink and uttered a small thank you. "Miss summers, you suffered a concussion and a bullet would to you're abdomen," The doctor informed me. He then walked out. Leaving Kain and his mom with me.
"I'm so glad you're awake," Kain cried. He gently hugged me, being mindful of the IV. I hugged him back. "I love you so freaking much," He said.
"I love you too," I replied. The day went by slow. Once I was out of the hospital they were going to hold the trial for my father.
Kain
The trial for Lyra's father was coming up soon. She seemed more on edge ever since she was almost shot to death. But I would be too, if I was in her situation. She was finally able to come home. She was staying at Marley's house. We all watched her closely. She seemed really down lately.

My father's trial was today. Kain, his mom, and I were getting breakfast before the trial. We invited Marley, Renea, and Jax to come with us. Having my friends close around me helped ease the tension. I was thankful to have friends like them. After breakfast we headed to the court house. Something I'd hoped I would never had to do. My lawyer and I entered the courtroom and sat in out respective places. "All rise for the judge," the bailiff said. Everyone stood up as the judge entered he room, then sat down. "Alright, the defendant has been accused of abuse and attempted murder, how does the defendant plead?" The judge said.
"Innocent until proven guilty,"
After my father was questioned, it was my turn.
"You're honor I call the plaintiff to the stand," Said my attorney.
"Can you tell us what happened?" Asked My attorney. Taking a deep breath I began to explain, I decided to tell the entire story. "My father, he used to be a kind man. He was loving to my mother and I. But soon after she passed away, he became different...he would go out and not come back for a few days. Then the abuse started. About seven months ago, my father came home, he-he was so drunk he could barely stand." I paused taking a deep breath.
"Take all the time you need," said the judge.
"He blamed me for my mom's death...He would tell me that it was my fault...and how stupid I was. If told something enough...well, you begin to believe it...then he-he would..." I cut off. I couldn't say it. Shaking my head, I just let the tears fall.
"That's all, thank you miss Summers," the judge said. The court was dismissed so they could judge a verdict. The judge came back in after about ten minutes.
"The defendant is found guilty of all charges and is sentenced to ten years in prison," I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. I knew that he was found guilty, but I couldn't stop the rising panic as he looked at me.
"This court is adjourned," The judge said, he left and my father was put in handcuffs. As he passed me he stopped.
"I will get you for this," He said quietly. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest and I knew I was having another panic attack. I could feel the tears beginning to fall. My hands were shaking like an earthquake.
"Shhh, It'll be ok now," I felt a calm aura and strong warm arms wrap around me. I knew it was Kain. My chest began to tighten. I felt three other people come over to Kain and I. I tried to calm down, I really did...but nothing was working.
"Lyra breathe, It's okay now," I felt comfort in Kain's arms, and slowly but surely I began to calm down. Once I was calmed down we went home. I spent the rest of the day on the couch cuddling with Kain and watching a movie. I fell asleep in the comfort of his arms.
