"Happy New Year Baby Brother."

"Stop saying baby brother like you're five years older than me. You're only a year older than me." Diamonte started laughing as she wrapped her arm around her brothers neck. "I'm still older so don't forget that."

"Yeah whatever, What's your New Year's Resolution?"

"You know, I don't believe in those."

"C'mon just make one!" Diamonte sighs, "That I'll forgive our father for walking out on us."

"Mines is, we'll make it another year in these streets safe."

"There he goes, he's at the thirty line, he's going to go all the way there! He scores, Again! Bar Tremaine leads the team 66-13 he is unstoppable." Diamonte jumped up and down with the rest of her teammates when Bar scored again. Thanks to Ms. Francis putting Bar into football early he was one of the best assets on his high school football team, leading the team to yet another championship. Diamonte wanted to always be on the sideline cheering for her brother, and what best way to do that other than being a cheerleader? Diamonte started cheering the same time Bar joined the team and to her surprise she was actually enjoying it. For the past years a lot has changed in the Francis household. Grandma Rosa still sat in her chair every day watching her shows and smoking, Cousin Mima had another baby and spent most of her time chasing after the baby's father, Uncle Hector still works as a garbage man and complained about his work every chance he gets, Justica and Tatiana lives together in Miami going to college and working. Juan was killed five years ago in a driveby and Jose is in jail for trying to kill the person who killed his brother.

Diamonte's 17, and a senior at South Grants high school also where Bar 16, attends as a Junior. Diamonte did a great job of making sure her brother didn't fall behind in school and stayed out of the streets. She herself has been working on opening up more but not much has changed. She still writes poetry in her journal, it keeps her sane.

"That's what I'm talking about boy!" Diamonte hugged her brother and they did their handshake before he went back into the locker room. The game was over but South Grants fans was still shouting and celebrating. Diamonte was happy that the season was almost over so she could focus on finishing all her credits.

"Girl did you see that!" Diamonte turned and looked at Carrie who had walked up to her. "Yes, I did Carrie."

"You're brother is a beast." Diamonte started laughing but her laughter soon died down when she looked up the stands to see her father and Laytone. "What is he doing here?" Diamonte wondered. Last time she checked her father was still in prison, so she as confused on how he was here and not in a prison cell. "Diamonte!" Diamonte snapped out her thoughts and put her attention on Carrie who was screaming her name.

"You coming back to my house?"
"I have to see what Bar about to do." Once everyone started clearing out, Diamonte met up with Bar who was standing by Herb's mom truck. "Hey Bar. Good job out there." Bar laughs as Carrie bats her eyelashes at him. It was obviously Carrie had a crush on Bar but Bar didn't want a girlfriend. He knew that when he graduates it was a strong possibility that he would be offered a scholarship to a school outta state since he was an all american, so he didn't want to be the reason why a girl cries herself to sleep because of him leaving. Bar saw his mother cry multiple times over his dad and it broke his heart. So he promised himself he'd never make a girl cry.

Diamonte looks at Carrie and rolls her eyes, "Anyways, you going home Bar or what?"

"Nah, we heading over to Bib's house."
