"Where are you going, Erik?"
"No where, Maya. Go back to sleep." He grunted.
"I'm tired of this, Erik." I say getting up out of the bed, walking cautiously behind him.
"If you don't trust me, just tell me." I say without thinking. It's too late to back down now.
"Maya, babe. Let's not start this tonight. Go back to sleep and I'll be here in the morning, like always." He tried to reason.
He was avoiding the question. I collected my strength and asked again. "Killmonger," I started. "Do you not trust me?"
Silence. He glanced away, hiding the truth in his face. "Do you not trust me?!"
"No!," he yelled, making me flinch. "I never did!"
I slowly backed away, getting back into bed. "See you in the morning, Erik." I say squeezing the blankets hard, trying to find some comfort now. Holding back tears and thoughts that tear me down every chance they get.
"Maya..."
I closed my eyes, as hard as I can, and opened them again. He was gone, he gave in and left me. Realization hit me, What if he never loved me? ,tears fell down fast.
~
He wasn't there in the morning. Nor the day after that, or the next week. He didn't show by next month.
Maybe I ruined the relationship, or whatever we had, with my stupid questions.
