It's my first day of my new school and I'm absolutely terrified. My parents decided it would be best if I moved to a new school that was closer to the hospital. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I have cancer. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a year ago. I've decided I'm not going to get all upset about it because there's not much I can do about it and I'm not telling anyone at my new school, I made that mistake in my old school. I told my friends about having cancer and they treated me differently, everyone found out and they all acted like they actually cared about me, I hated it though. I just want to have a normal life, well as normal as I can get.

"Alexa are you almost ready it's time to leave." I heard my mum yell. (A/N the fanfic is set in New York but I'm Irish and we say mum not mom so yeah)

"Yes I'll be down in a minute!" I screamed back.

My new school was a private school so we had to wear a uniform unlike my last school. I grabbed my bag and made my way downstairs. We moved to New York to be closer to my hospital so we had to get a new house, I felt bad for my family because we had to change so much all for me.

My mum told me that the new school was close by so I could walk but she said she would drive me since it's my first day.

We arrived after what felt like 2 minutes in our car. I started to get nervous but also excited to make some new friends that would treat me normally and not fuss over me 24/7.

"Okay Alexa do you need me to take you in and get you sorted at the office, I'm sure there will be other new kids since it's after summer now, you know new year maybe you could hang around with them?"

"No mum it's fine I'm a big girl I'm 17 I can do this myself and yeah maybe there will be but I don't really care, I'm fine by myself."

I said my goodbyes to my mum and made my way into my new school. It looked pretty nice from the outside and when I went in it was just as nice. The outside looked like an old red brick building but it was quite modern on the inside.

I saw some signs that pointed towards the office so I figured I would go there and get my timetable and all that stuff. The line at the office only had a few people in it as I was quite early. I think classes start at 8:30 but it was only 8:00 so that's probably why there wasn't too many people around. The line moved quickly and before I knew it I was standing at the front of the line greeted with a friendly women behind the desk.

"Hello love how can I help you?"

"Um hi my name is Alexa Parks it's my first day I'm here to collect my ehh stuff." I smiled not really knowing what to say.

She handed me a pack with a map, timetable and some other things in it. "This is your timetable your classes start at 8:30 and end at 2:30. There's a map in your pack so that can help you along the way. Enjoy your first day sweetie! Oh I almost forgot your lockers are just down there."

I smiled at the lady and said thanks then made my way to my locker in the direction she pointed me in. There was only one other person at the lockers when I got there and it was a cute guy. I liked his hair it was a dark brown and sort of wavy, he was tanned and about 6 foot I'd say. Pretty cute if I'm honest.

I pulled my keys out of the pack and I was locker 2501. I looked around for my locker and it was the last one in the row. The boy noticed me and smiled.

"Hi are you new I haven't seen you before?" He said to me.

"Yeah today's my first day actually," I blushed.

"Oh really what class are you in?" He grabbed my timetable and a big smiled grew on his face.

"Oh my god we have the same classes!" He squealed.

"Really?" I was kinda excited because a cute guy was talking to me and he was in my class!

"Do you want me to walk you to class and I can help you out today?"

"Sure that would be great because I kind of have no idea where I'm going like I have a map but I still have no idea,"

He laughed, which may I add was beautiful, then said "I completely forgot to introduce myself, my name is Calum Hood I'm 17 and I'm from Sydney but I moved here a year ago."

"Well nice to meet you Calum, my name is Alexa Parks I'm 17 also, and I'm from Boston but I moved here 3 months ago."

Calum stopped walking and I didn't realise and kept walking but he pulled me back and we both giggled. "Why would you move from Australia are you dumb Calum?" I asked.

"Well New York is amazing, I've always loved it, but Australia is my favourite but my dad got moved over here with work so we all tagged along I guess." he shrugged. Don't get me wrong I love New York too but I would never leave Australia for it.

Calum and I got to know each other while we waited for our teacher to arrive, he told me about his family and all that stuff. I did the same but just left out the whole thing about me having cancer.

"That's our teacher there, she's ok not very strict, so we can have a chat in the seats at the back." Calum whispered. I really am a believer that there is no such thing as love at first sight as it's too cliché, but I sure as heck wouldn't know how else I would describe what I'm feeling right now.

Ayyyy that's the first chapter, this is my first attempt at writing a fanfic, so sorry if it sucks :( But Cal and Alexa met so yay
