Chapter 5

Mackenzie's POV

I can't believe Johnny! He's such a jerk! First, he says we're best friends or something, and then proceeds to tell me I'm a nerd. Who does that! Apparently Johnny.

After he said all those things, I stormed into english class. I sat down as the teacher entered the classroom.

"Good morning everyone. Before we start today's class I'm going to change seats" he announced. Some people groaned and rolled their eyes, while others couldn't care less, like me. The whole process took about 10 minutes, and, as I sat down in my new seat, I heard someone say:

"You're Mackenzie, right?" I turned around to find my new partner was Lauren Orlando. By that point I didn't want to be around any Orlando, but I forced myself to nod and say quietly:

"And you're Lauren?"she answered:

"Yeah. You came over to my house right?" I responded:

"Yes, I was doing a project with your brother, Johnny" I frowned, remembering the hurtful things he had just said to me. Lauren noticed and asked me:

"Is something wrong?" I hesitated, but proceeded to explain the whole episode. When I finished, my eyes were watering. Lauren said kindly:

"Aw, Mackenzie, don't take it personal, he's a jerk. Really arrogant too" I smiled. Her words did make me feel better. We ended up talking a lot during the whole class.

At the end of the period, she asked me:

"Hey, can I call you Kenzie?" I smiled and nodded. No one had ever called me that, and I liked it.

"Also, would you like to have lunch with me?" she added. My eyes widened and I said breathlessly:

"You're kidding" Lauren shook her head. I doubted but I responded:

"It's just that you eat at the populars table and I don't think I fit in there" I looked down, embarrased.

"Well, we can eat elsewhere" Lauren said. I looked at her gratefully.

"Okay then" I said. Lauren smiled and hugged me. I hugged her back, confused. As she walked away, I thought that might be what having friends felt like.

Later, we walked into the cafeteria together and sat in a table in the corner. We started talking, and we found out we had a lot of things in common. While we were talking, I saw Johnny. He was taking his girlfriend, Danielle, to a more private corner of the cafeteria. Probably to make out or something. Ugh, how I hate her. She is sooo fake, on the inside and on the outside. She literally wears a gallon of makeup to school, which I don't get the point of it, since she's too young. She probably looks better without all those layers. Funny story, actually, she likes to cover her face in pounds of foundation, but finds no need to cover the rest of her body. She wears really innappropiate clothes for her age. She also acts like I don't exist, which wouldn't bother me, but when you find her kissing her pick of the week in front of your locker and doesn't even look at you when you politely ask them to move, it starts t get to you a little bit, you know?

Anyways, me and Lauren were talking when suddenly, someone yelled:

"You know what? WE ARE OVER!" I turned around and saw Danielle shouting at Johnny. When she finished, she went back to the populars table and started talking with Carson Lueders. By that point, everyone in the cafateria was staring at Johnny, including me. He looked around, as if daring anyone to make a comment. His eyes met mine, but I quickly turned my head. I could feel his eyes fixed on the back of my head, so I just continued to talk with Lauren.

When I came home from school, I checked Instagram, cause I can usually find some juicy drama, and I like to relax and sip some tea, if you know what I mean. I could see Johnny had posted a selfie with a caption that read: "Waiting for you babe😉" I rolled my eyes. He had just broken up with his girlfriend and he was already looking for a new one. I thought about Johnny and how his personality seems to change all the time, and I don't think it's because of the "teenage hormones" adults talk about. I shook my head and sighed. Johnny was a mistery, and I wasn't sure I wanted to be the one to figure it out.
