Lance frowned, void of any words to reply with. "Keith I didn't mean it like that." He tried.
Keith sent a harsh glare towards Lance, raising his eyebrow questioningly. "Oh? Then what way did you mean it?"
Lance bit the inside of his cheek, brushing his hair back and avoiding Keith's hard gaze. "Well... I guess I might have kinda meant that."
Keith tutted, turning around and returning to the dinner.
Lance inhaled sharply. "But! I just didn't understand! I didn't realize you were holding so much in."
"Yeah, I guess neither of us really know much."
Lance sighed. "Come on Keith. We're gonna have our fights. That's what happens with couples, but we just have to-"
"Couples?" Keith turned back around.
Lance's eyes widened in concern, his brows knitting together in a furrow. "Yeah, we're a couple."
Keith scoffed, crossing his arms and looking away in mock thinking. "Is that so? If I recall... there has never been a formal time you've asked me. You never really asked me honestly to be your boyfriend-"
"Then do! I ask you now Keith, be my boyfriend. Please?" Lance begged, clasping his hands together.
Keith saw the desperation in Lance's eyes, practically tearing up. Lance sighed and began walking towards Keith, but Keith turned away and stormed out of the door. Lance reached up to his head, gripping onto fist fulls of his hair before speeding after Keith.
"Keith!" Lance cried out.
The front door opened, the rest of the family filing in. Rosa frowned at the scene. Keith paused, looking to Rosa and then back to Lance. He scowled before turning back towards Rosa.
"Excuse me." Keith mumbled, shuffling past the family and out the front door.
Rosa turned to Lance who sighed and shrugged to his mother. Rosa shook her head at Lance, walking past him and into the kitchen. Chloe scoffed as Lance walked past her and out to follow Keith.
"Mama? They didn't even finish dinner!"
"Chole!" Rosa scolded. "Leave them to fix their problem."
Chloe muttered under her breath, kicking the door closed after her.
Lance groaned, looking around him. Keith had wondered somewhere around the back of the house. He wasn't near the animals and he wasn't in the garage. The only other possible place he could have wandered off to would have to be the forest. The forest which Lance had rarely been in himself. Keith definitely would get lost if he wandered too far in. This definitely was not the highlight of the trip. Lance took off, running towards the forest opening. One of the cons of living in the country, there is too many ways to get lost and Lance was just about to be in the center of that problem. He wandered aimlessly around the forest, his eyes straining to try see through the light but nonetheless bothersome fog.
"Keith!" Lance yelled, his voice echoing throughout the thick forest. "Keith, if you come in here you'll get lost. It's cold, let's just sort this out inside!"
Lance only heard silence after his attempt at reasoning. He groaned, continuing to trek through the wood. His feet ached and his shoes were now coated in filth. This only made Lance hate his position even more. Although, the scene was quite peaceful. The light fog and the animals chirping and singing innocently in the nature. The colorful plant life and the naturally sweet scene they emit. It was like a scene found in a fantasy book, at any moment a faerie could flutter past or he would come across a mysterious map. Obviously that wouldn't happen, but it was nice to dream. He cupped his hands around his mouth and called out.
"Keith, where are you! I'm getting worried!" Lance cried out desperately.
The forest silenced at Lance's loud calling. It gave an eerie feel, but Lance could only continue ahead despite the bad feeling brewing in his stomach. Lance slapped his hands over his face letting out a silent sob.
"It's all my fault. Why do I have to insult him about stuff I don't know about. Yeah, Benji's running out of time-" Lance sniffled, wiping his face harshly as to prevent tears. "-Keith's lost everything. I'm losing one of the most important things that I've ever had. Keith? He experienced this twice. God I'm an ass." Lance sighed.
"Yeah you are."
Lance jumped around, Keith was stomping towards Lance with trouble.
"Keith-"
"Don't try it Lance. I just want to get back." Keith snapped.
Lance sighed. "Alright." Despite how horrible he felt, Lance couldn't stop the relieved smile that appeared on his face when he saw Keith again. He wrapped an arm around Keith's waist and began to help guide him to where he hope the exit to the forest was. Before Keith could object Lance cut in.
"You just recovered from a crash and you think I'm gonna let you walk by yourself out here?"
Keith sighed. "I guess that wasn't smart of me to storm out here."
Lance chortled. "Yeah, I guess neither of us were very smart today."
Keith smiled faintly, both tracking back to the house.
After a while of aimless wondering, they came to the opening of the woods. Even though they didn't end up where they hoped and the walk back would be a while, they were both relived they were out of the hell of a forest. They lay back on a bed of thick and lush grass, the greenery feeling as comfortable as a blanket. Lance sighed and sat up.
"Keith I'm sorry."
"Lance-"
"No, I am. I don't often apologize but it's only appropriate right now." Lance got on his hands and knees, crawling over so he could tower over Keith. Keith was unamused, his deadpan look showing clearly so. "I know, I'm an ass who said stupid things but I'm... irrational and a bit messed up right now..." Lance sat back, now sitting on Keith's thighs. Keith attempted to sit up, but their noses were pressing against each other when he did so. He sat back slightly and sighed.
"I know what it's like to be upset about something about this. Some people say to thrive off the grief, others say to forget about it. I don't really do either. If you remember the people you loose with good memories you wont feel as upset, as bad about loosing them. You'll look back and think, "Well, at least my memories are fond and I know they didn't die in pain or vain."."
Lance frowned, looking down to his lap, which lead him to look down at Keith's too. His forehead now pressed against Keith's, his cold skin cooling at the touch of Keith's surprisingly hot skin. This alarmed Lance. It was cold outside, a rare cold day too. But Keith's shouldn't be this hot after wandering around outside for so long.
"Keith, are you alright?" Lance spoke.
Keith looked into Lance's eyes, his own being quite droopy. "Yeah..."
Lance frowned, standing up and pulling Keith up. "Let's get back anyway. You're probably getting a fever or something, which isn't surprising really."
Keith complied, allowing Lance to wrap his arms around his waist.
"Thank's Keith, that really helps." Lance spoke softly.
"It's fine. Just some advice I really needed when I lost my parents... twice." Keith replied, his voice faint. "And yes."
Lance raised his eyebrow. "Yes?"
"Yeah," Keith said, looking to Lance. "you asked to be my boyfriend and you wanted to be a couple. I say yes."
Lance sighed in relief and joy, a smile now on his chin as he walked home. And they walked back together this time, less angry than before but still quite tense. But that's fine, all couples have their fights.
