Boston, Mass. April 17, 1979.

Nationals game.

...

There was only 2 minutes left in the championship game.

Hockey meant everything to me. I wanted more then anything to win this game, but time was running out. And as of right now, I was stuck in the penalty box.

And I was fucking angry.

I looked up to the scoreboard, knowing the game was 1-1. No way in hell was I letting this game end with a tie, plus it was Nationals and I wanted--needed to win.

This was also our first year where NYU qualified and made it past the semi finals.  A lot of people discriminated against girls playing hockey, but with lots of determination and fighting, we finally got our team. A lot of people didn't expect us to succeed or do well...but look at us now.

We're playing against one of the best varsity teams in our district for gold!  Boston was  the team everyone wanted to beat, and it was time somebody took them down. Give us rookies the recognition and chance that we deserve.

I watched the clock impatiently, the numbers fading with my penalty time. Coach Turner looked over at me and I saw her get our power play line together, which I was apart of. I nodded back at her, showing her that I was ready to go as soon as my time was up.

In three seconds, I jumped out of the box not wasting anytime with opening the door and skated towards the play. I got along the boards, circling around before I received a pass from Donna, one of NYU's best defence. Our power play as now assembled, as I looked over at my team. My eyes quickly flickered up to the board, reading only one minute left in the third period.

This was one of the most naturaliest feelings in the world; having a puck on your stick.

I smirked and began to move forwards, digging my skates into the ice and pumping my arms. I chipped the puck off the boards and skated around the opposing teams defensemen, picking the puck up once again.

I skated hard into the neutral zone, my mind focused on setting up a play so we can get some shots on these guys. I skated over the red line and looked up to see Shelby, my centremen and best friend, waiting for a pass. I passed the puck to her just as she reached the blue line, crossing into the opposing teams end. I skated into the other teams end as well, getting in position in front of the net, hoping to snag a tip off someones shot.

The defence, whose job was to protect their goalie and keep me away, was hacking at my stick trying to stop me from getting a possible tip off one of my teammates shots. I swiftly moved around them, trying to find an opening to get a pass from someone.

I watched as Shelby passed the puck to Donna, who did a fake shot, then passed it to Molly, her partner. I watched, waiting patiently for Molly's pass to come to me, but instead she passes the puck over to Lori, my wing partner. Lori practically has two people on her...Molly just made one risky move and that could cost us the game.

"Ah come on Truman!" I fumed, not happy at all that she just made such a risky pass. Hopefully Laurie doesn't mess it up because we needed to get a shot in right now!

I moved around on the ice, coming a bit on to Lori's side, in case she lost control of the puck.

I looked up at the scoreboard seeing there was 40 seconds left now. Crap, we need to score now.
