A few days later. August 8, 1979. 6:00 p.m.
" Hey, I'm hungry. Are you guys down to grab some pizza?!" I asked, looking around at the guys.
I just finished practice and was walking out with a few of the guys: Boston, Rizzo, Dave, and Ralph. Well..I wasn't actually walking. I hoped on Jacks back as soon as we left the dressing room.
I mean Boston wasn't complaining so I just didn't bother to get off. I guess me and him are buddies now. I still find him annoying and rude but he's nice...when its just the two of us.
I've also been getting a lot more comfortable with the team and everyone seems chill with me being on the team...but there is a huge tension in the room. It wasn't long before I found out about the Boston/Minnesota rivalries...and well this sucks.
When I was talking with my friends from Minnesota like Steve and Mac, Jack would be glaring in our direction the whole time until I came over to him. And it was the same with my Minnesota buddies when I was talking with my Boston friends.
What are we..day three now and its already so draining.
I just met Ralph Cox and Dave Silk today at practice, and they were pretty sick dudes. Ralph is just hilarious and Dave is so sarcastic. I think I just found my new pranking partners and I was very excited about this.
" Hey Evans, how do you have all this energy? I mean the way Herb worked us today, I'm surprised I can still walk!"Rizzo whined dragging his feet behind him.
" Ha! You think that was bad..shit boy you wouldn't last a day at Buffalo" I teased, making Jack chuckle below me.
" Yeah, well I don't know bout y'all but I'm already missing Boston" Dave Silk said, rubbing the back of his neck wincing.
The guys started to tease Dave some more and I zoned out of the conversation. I can't believe that today after practice..when I'm actually in the mood to do something fun and wild...Herb gives up freaking homework.
HOMEWORK.
I looked over Jack's head that was full of his damp curly hair and looked at the papers I was holding in my hands. No, this isn't homework...this was a whole damn test.
Like heres one question for example.
If you could trade lives with someone for a day, who would it be with and why?
That doesn't have anything to do with playing hockey...so I'm a little confused. But oh well, I still have to do it.
I didn't want to spend my night writing this dumb test. I wanted to do something fun. Something I haven't done in a while. Something that involves drinking. And then an idea popped in my head.
" Wait..scratch off the pizza idea. Lets go to a bar" I said, telling the group my excellent idea.
I jumped off of Jack, and wiggled my way in between Jack and Rizzo both of them chuckling at me. I ignored them and looked to all the boys, a cheerful smile on my face.
" SO, who's in?" I mused, a sly smirk creeping its way on my face.
The boys exchanged looks with themselves than turned to me. I just looked at them anxiously, waiting for them to give me an answer. They smiled back at me and I knew then that they caved.
" I'm in, sounds like fun" Rizzo, Ralph and Dave all said.
We're going drinking!! -- Wait, Jack never answered me.
