Friday, October 5, 1979. Wellsboro, PA. 5:00 p.m.
Chelseas POV...
Today, I was bringing Boston home to meet my family and I think I'm more nervous about this than he was . I didn't tell Dad I was bringing anyone home with me and hopefully he and Nate are okay with this or else that puts me in an awkward situation. I just told him I was coming down for the weekend.
I've never really brought boys home before---well boys I've dated, other then Wes and I wasn't sure how Dad would react. I already know that Nate will be dramatic about me bringing Jack home, cause that's just the type of person my brother was, but I wasn't sure about dad.
He was a closed book.
My dad was a quiet and a very sincere man. He used to be a very talkative person before, but he's changed since mom passed on. He was more quiet now which was understandable, but he was still the kind and thoughtful father I have always known. I just hope he is kind to Jack when they meet for the first time, cause looking back when dad first met Wes, he wasn't very nice.
We were 5 minutes from my house, which made the butterflies in my stomach get worse, but I was also getting excited. I've missed being home, which was weird because I always thought I would never miss this place, little old Wellsboro. But I was wrong. I missed this place a lot more then I thought I would.
We drove through the small town, looking at all the people going about with their day. I had a few people wave at me, recognizing my jeep probably, and I waved back to them. I turned down the familiar street that led to my neighbourhood and watched a few of the neighbour kids tossing a football around on their front lawn.
I smiled.
Nothing has changed a single bit around here. It was like I never left.
I saw my house come up and suddenly all the butterflies that I had earlier, were gone. I was finally home.
I pulled into the laneway and parked my car in front of our garage. I heard Ollie barking instantly and I laughed. I got out of the car and was tackled by my dog, him jumping up on me legs. I bent down and scooped up the little bundle in my arms, Ollie liking my face.
" Haha, I missed you too Ollie" I said, laughing at my crazy dog who was jumping up and down. I set him back down and gave him a pet, as I saw a shadow come over me. I looked up and saw my father.
" Daddy, I missed you so much!" I said jumping up to my feet, pulling him in to a hug.
Ollie was jumping around, bumping in to my legs, liking all the excitement going on. His tail was wagging crazy and then I saw him run over to the other side of my truck.
Oh right, Jack.
I let go of Dad just as Jack came up beside me, Ollie prancing along behind him. He sat down at Jacks feet, totally invading his space but Jack didn't seem bothered by him. I giggled, watching as Boston gave Ollie a belly rub. Ollie was wagging his tail furiously, loving all the attention he was getting.
Well, good to know Ollie liked Jack...I just hope Dad does too.
I walked over beside Boston and he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to his side. Dad eyed us carefully, his face tight and emotionless. Uh oh, theres no way thats a good sign.
" Dad, this is Jack O'Callahan. He's my boyfriend" I said boldly standing up straight trying to look brave.
One of the scariest things I'll ever have to do in my life is introducing my boyfriend to my father. Dad is the most important man in my life and I love him, just when it comes to my love life...things can get complicated.
