Tristan snuck in ahead of Jody, scoping the area ahead out before he let her go ahead, leaving her standing alone with Daniel.
An awkward silence filled the air between them, after what seemed like an eternity, Jody finally spoke up,"sorry about earlier, I let my emotions get the best of me, I didn't mean to lash out at you and you don't have to forgive me but it would make things less awkward for all of us."
A slight smile played at his lips, but he didn't want to let it show. "I forgive you but only for the sake of awkwardness." Both of them smiled now. Jody waited for a signal from Tristan.
"Not to seem heartless but what happened your sister?" She pulled her dark hair up and tied it loosely out of the way. The question has obviously taken Daniel by surprise as his green eyes grew as big as the moon. "Um," he choked, "she was found practising her magic in a backstreet in Aspen, they took her to be executed but I knocked out the executioner and put on his uniform, the hood and everything and cut the rope before another guy was able to kick it, then I freed her hand and she made everyone in the room collapse, including me. That's how the guards caught me, I woke up in a cell the next morning."
"Not to seem even more heartless but why didn't they kill you?" She was curious, a bit too curious in Daniels opinion. She was slouched on the floor, messing with a piece of grass in her fingers.
"They thought I knew where she went, so they tried to get me to talk."
Jody look up to Daniel "and you didn't." He nodded.
Then Jody felt it the tug in her chest telling her to move, "we have to go, now." They ran round the wall of the castle making it to the first gate, she could see Tristan up ahead hiding in a nook by the other gate, a lone guard stood about 100 yards in front of them, he was wearing a helmet and armour on his chest but his arms were bare. She would go for them first.
Jody raised her hands and clenched them into a fist all of a sudden the man's arm broke and he dropped his weapon to clasp his arm with his other hand, before he could let out a scream, Jody clasped her other hand shut and blocked his windpipe turning his face a daunting purple, he collapsed to the floor without a sound. " We have about half an hour before a guard circles round." She waved Tristan over, who made quick work of melting the bars on the gate and then they were through.
They had been walking for ten minutes, hiding in the shadows of dark alleys and ducking behind boxes and vehicles as people wandered past them. " Are either of you's hungry?" Daniel asked his stomach rumbling for about the twentieth time.
Tristan turned around, annoyed about how many times he had heard that question in the last ten minutes. "No but apparently you are, for goodness sake, it's like bringing a child on a road trip, are we there yet?, are we there yet?, are we there yet?"
Jody turned to him, "we can stop for five minutes to get something from one of the food stalls but first we have to disguise ourselves a bit."
"How are we meant to do that?" Tristan didn't have any hair dye on him so what was he meant to do.
"I've been practising, but I'm not perfect at it yet, but like no one is perfect alot of people probably don't have noses." As Tristan inhaled a breath it caught in his throat." What do you mean some people don't have noses?"
"Well I was practising once but for some reason I find noses really hard so I kind of gave up and the person I was working on doesn't have a nose anymore." She smiled, trying to make it seem as though not being able to smell and having a fully functional respiratory system would be a good thing.
"No,no,no, I am not letting you anywhere near my face with those powers of yours, do you not remember where they found the nose?" He raised his eyebrows in exasperation.
"Of course I do but I would rather not say it out loud. Come on," she pleaded," I can do it. Now." He was hesitant, "No, you can't not after what happened earlier, if you really think it was your magic that tossed you into the air, it's best not to strain them."
Daniel was suddenly back to reality " you think you did that to yourself?" He seemed a bit scared, not of her but of the power inside her, what would happen to them if her power is turning on the body it inhabits?
"You didn't tell him?" Tristan asked as Jody glared at him looking straight into his blue eyes as if she was staring into his soul.
"No I didn't because I don't need another person looking at me like I'm weak!" She trudged off down the lane and into the busy street making a point of hiding her face, she was gone for a few minutes but returned with three tubs of food. She tossed them a tub each.
"Now eat!"
