Holly's POV

I wake up to the house being empty. I'm quite glad at that, I didn't really feel like making breakfast today.

My arm was still sore from where it was twisted. I think I've sprained my wrist.

I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth and hair, putting a bobble in it before going back to my room.

I go to my bed and put my school clothes on, fastening my bracelet so it won't slip off.

I pull on my hoodie to hide the bruises on my arms and put the hood up, shoving my arms through my bag straps and practically running out the house.

I speed walk away, just in case my 'family' shows up.

I look a lot different from my family. My mum has brown hair and brown eyes, my dad has black hair and brown eyes and my older sister has brown hair and blue eyes.

I on the other hand, have golden blonde hair and hazel eyes. My hair and eyes are the only things I like about myself. My eyes glow golden in the sunlight, and the have gold and blue flecks in them. Sometimes my pupils will dilate so much they look black. That usually just happens when I feel a certain strong emotion, I don't know if it's normal or not though.

I walk the long way to school as I left forty minutes before it starts. I don't like sitting in school early. I feel like I'm being watched and tend to become very self conscious. More than usual anyway.

No one in school knows about what happens at home. The beatings. The starving. Not even my friends. I can't trust anyone to know.

I get to school with just a few minutes to go and head straight for regi, getting there when the bell rings.

After a few minutes the class is full and the teacher gets in to call out the register. I usually just zone out till I hear my name.

"Holly King" Miss Baker shouts.

"Here." I say, only just loud enough.

Just then the bell rings, and everyone leaves. I head to English, my first class, and sit down while the register is called yet again.

Because someone would definitely sneak out in the space of three minutes without be caught.

My name is called out and I reply a small 'here' before the teacher continues on the list of names.

I continue to daydream until an assignment is placed in front of me. Sighing, I take out my pencil and rubber and open the booklet.

I forgot we had a test today.

I stare at the first few questions, analysing them in my head and thinking over them before the teacher yells 'start'.

I always do this on tests, it gives me a good head start as I just have to write down the answers.

{time skip to lunch}

I sit with my head down, looking at the regular cheese sandwich in front of me. I'm sitting in the back corner of the school, just sitting on the grass peacefully and eating. My friends and I have a sort of system.

They eat inside and don't rush to eat and I eat outside, giving me time to think while they eat. When they're done, the come round and we'll just talk about stuff, joke around a bit.

I'm a bit of a nerd, I'll admit it. I get good grades, I'm in all the top classes, I always hand in homework.

I chuckle slightly to myself. These are just the random thoughts I have on a daily basis. My friends leave me for a while to think about these things, and then I socialise.

Just the word 'socialise' makes me want to shudder in disgust. I most defiantly am not a social person. I love my friends, and if my family didn't abuse me, I would be protective of them too! But I'm very aggressive to those that hurt my friends.

I feel the need to protect anyone that's a loyal friend to me. You need to gain my trust and be loyal for me to allow you in my circle of friends. When you gain my trust I will protect you until you break it.

My friends and I used to get bullied. I managed to reduce it to just mere name calling that doesn't bother us that much. It amuses me to see people shake with fear when I'm angry, to see them flinch if they know they've insulted me, to see them immediately spew out how sorry they are and how they 'won't ever do it again' if someone annoys or hurts my friends. It makes me feel powerful. And then I have to go home.

"Hey Holly. You done?" One of my friends, Nathan asks.

He has messy red hair and bright emerald coloured eyes. His face has some sharp edges and he had some slight aristocratic features. He was quite agile and fast and one of my most loyal and trustworthy friends.

We've been friends since primary one. He would come to my house almost every weekend (my parents are very discreet in their way of abuse. They would give me a phone and some other presents and let people come over so no one gets suspicious) and we would play all kinds of games. He was great fun.

I smiled and nodded, standing up and putting my waste food in the bin.

Me and Nathan talked for a while sitting on a black bench outside before my two other closest friends, Sasha and Harper come out from the schools cafeteria, walking over and sitting next to me and Nathan on the bench.

Sasha had platinum blonde hair and silvery-blue eyes. She looked a lot like Draco Malfoy (from the Harry Potter books) and every time I see her I'm reminded of Harry's enemy. Sasha is a bit round and tubby and hates any sort of exercise.

Harper has ash blonde hair and pale blue eyes as well as a thin face and long limbs. She was very elegant and graceful, and I'm surprised she used to get picked on. She has perfectly straight sparkling white teeth and a voice like silk. When she laughs it sounds like the heavens have opened up and I honestly envy her for her good looks.

"Harper, looking good as always." I smile.

She returns the smile and laughs lightly. I can see Nathan looking dreamily at her.

"Hey, Nathan, can I talk to you in private?" I ask. Not waiting for a reply, I grab his wrist and walk out of earshot of the other two.

"I know you like Harper." I state. He looks at me in surprise.

"Wh-what? N-no I don't! Why would you think that?" He splutters, looking slightly flustered.

I giggle slightly before putting my hands on his shoulders. "I will get Sasha away, ask her out! It's not like she'll say no, she totally likes you back!" I say, pushing him towards the bench.

"Sasha, c'mere a minute." I say, waiting for her to follow.

We stand a little bit away and I can see Nathan looking nervously at Harper.

"Whats he doing?" Sasha asks.

"Asking our Harper, shh." I say.

I watch as he seems to say it really quickly and closed his eyes. Harper looks confused, I'm guessing she didn't hear. I watch from behind a tree as he says it more slowly. Harper beams and nods her head while Nathan looks like he's just been told he won a million pounds. I grin and walk over to my two best friends, Sasha following behind.

"Sooooo...?" I say, trailing off at the end.

"We are officially dating! Thanks Holly." Nathan says, whispering the last part so only I can hear.

"No problem." I whisper back. We all sit back on the bench and Sasha starts her usual rant about how there shouldn't be this many stairs or corridors in school.
