Lunch Problems

Lydia sat at the lunch table by herself, swiping through Instagram posts in an attempt to not look lonely. She sighed in relief as Scott sat next to her and she smiled before she noticed the worried expression on his face.

"What's wrong?" She asked hesitantly. Scott looked towards his food, shifting it with his fork slightly, not making eye contact with Lydia.

"Look, I know you're not gonna be happy about this but..." Scott sighed, thinking off a way to say what he was about to say.

"Not going to be happy about what?... Scott what the hell are you talking about?" She said, shifting towards him. As Scott was about to speak, Lydia jumped at the sound of a lunch tray slamming down in front of her. She slowly looked up and was eye to eye with the person she really did not want to see.

Veronica.

Lydia rolled her eyes and chuckled, crossing her legs and looking back down at her food as Stiles sat down besides Veronica, in front of Scott. The rest of the group filled into the table as Lydia contemplated what was worse, the food or the fact that Veronica had decided she could sit at her lunch table, at the table of Lydia's friends- NOT Veronica's friends.

Lydia bit her lip as hard as she could and let out a breath. She had to remember what Stiles asked her. She would try to be as nice as she could to Veronica, but only because Stiles' asked. She hated Veronica more than she hated anyone.

Lydia ate her food in silence as Veronica stared at her. Lydia slowly looked up at her to meet her gaze and smiled as genuinely as she could. "You need something Veronica?" She asked.

Veronica chuckled softly and smirked towards Lydia. "Oh nothing really. Just wanted to let you know that you should change up your foundation- you're looking a little pale for that one. It's a bit... blotchy."

Lydia looked at her with her eyebrows raised before looking over at Stiles whose eyes were almost pleading with her to stay calm. Lydia laughed humorlessly and shrugged.

"Thanks for the tip." She said, moving her fork around in the mixture of food. She definitely wasn't hungry any more.

"Veronica you know what's interesting? No one seems to believe me but, I somewhat remember something odd happening to me at your party. Almost as if someone did something to me and hid me in a room so I would be out of the way. You wouldn't happen to know what happened, would you?" Lydia said, smiling falsely. Veronica gasped.

"How could you?! You're really going to accuse me off drugging you and hiding you somewhere? Do you know how insane you sound?" Veronica said, sounding insulted. Stiles sighed as the table became tense. Lydia shrugged, poking at her food.

"I mean, I wouldn't know. The whole night was pretty fuzzy after one of your pals handed me a drink. But who knows- maybe I just drank 10 times the amount I remembered."

Veronica glared at Lydia and shook her head, thinking up her next verbal attack. "Oh, you went for the Mac and cheese today? Kind of high in fat isn't it? Aren't you on a diet? I mean if you're not, you should be..." Veronica said. Verbal gasps were heard around the table, and Scott glared at her, but just as he was about to say something, Lydia placed her hand on his shoulder.

"It's fine Scott. No need to stick up for me, you'd be the only one doing it." Lydia said, shooting Stiles a glare before standing up with her things, dumping her food in the trash and walking out of the cafeteria.

She walked down the hallway before Scott ran up to her, trying to keep up with her fast walking.

"Slow down and just talk to me." Scott said. Lydia chuckled dryly, shaking her head.

"I can't slow down, I'm getting as far away from her as possible. I'm so sick and tired of her saying whatever she wants about me and to me, and Stiles does nothing! He just tells me to calm down like I'm some idiot or-"

Scott quickly spins Lydia around, planting his hands on her shoulders.

"Stop and calm down. Okay? I get it, you're mad. But you can't accuse people of crazy shit like that, and you can't let her bother you- that's what she wants. You have to keep being your confident and normal self, and just stay away from her."

"Scott I swear I wasn't lying I think she drugged me, I can't-" Lydia cut herself off as she looked at Scott's disapproving look. She sighed, shaking her head and looking down.

"Yeah, yeah you're right. I'm sorry- it's just so frustrating, you know? Stiles goes from being obsessed with me to not even caring when his girlfriend attacks me. And why would he even date her?" Lydia said, crossing her arms over her chest. Scott shook his head, taking his hands off her shoulder.

"I'm sorry but, I want to feel bad for you- I really do. But Stiles was head over heels for you for so wrong. You can blame him for not defending you, but you really can't blame him for moving on."

He slowly backed up and looked at her, sighing.

"Wanna go back to lunch?" Scott said. Lydia stood there for a while, thinking. "Nah I'm just gonna stay here for a while. Thanks though."

Scott nodded and started to walk the other way. She knew he was right, she really couldn't blame him for dating someone. But she wouldn't be able to be civil with Veronica- not anymore. No one was going to believe that Veronica did something to her, and she would have to deal with that.

"Scott?"

Scott slowly turned around towards Lydia and she smiled softly at him.

"Thanks. For sticking up for me." She said. Scott nodded smiling.

"No problem Lydia."

As he walked away Lydia sighed. She knew that she didn't want Veronica with Stiles anymore, and she was suspicious about a few things. But she wasn't quite sure how to deal with her. Yet.
