"Shh, don't cry, Virge," Patton said softly, looking down at two big, brown eyes.

He stood next to a wooden crib, and in his arms he held something that had become his whole world, his 6-month-old son, Virgil.

Patton had been woken up by the baby crying loudly in the room next to his own. Despite that it was 2 A.M., he had got up quickly and immediately went to the room, trying to comfort Virgil the best he could.

However, the little one continued to cry. Patton sighed, trying to think of what to do, when he suddenly had an idea. He began to sing softly.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky . . ."

Virgil's crying slowed down, though it continued even still.

"When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveler in the dark,
Thanks you for your tiny spark,
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so . . ."

Patton gently tapped Virgil's nose as he continued to sing, and the little one's crying finally stopped. He looked up at Patton, tiny hands clutching his father's fingers as he listened.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star.
how I wonder what you are . . ."

Patton finished the song, and smiled down at his son, gently brushing back the child's wisps of dark hair. Virgil's face contorted in an expression that resembled a tiny smile, and Patton grinned, holding him close.

"I love you, my little star."
