Rain pattered down, followed by a flash of lightning. The woman cradled the baby close to her chest as she ran through the streets. No one dared to show sympathy to her, to help her in her time of strife. Blood seeped out from a wound on her arm, inflicted by a quinque.
She was no ghoul, or even partly. She had given her life to her lover and she is still figuring out if it was a smart choice... She had refused to give up her 'monster of a child.' She believes that every person deserves a chance to a good life, whether ghoul or human, they still had emotions, friends, family.
The CCG was hunting her down to rid the world of the foul demon child which she cradled so carefully in her arms. It broke her heart to have to abandon her child, but it was for the child's safety.
The woman ran down an alleyway, her bare feet soaking from the wet ground. Tears spilled down her pale cheeks as she placed the child on the doorstep, wrapping the wet cloth tightly around her. The child stared at her in awe touching her cheek. She touched the babies hand, forcing a smile through her tears.
She said no words to the child, but the child seemed to understand. The child did not cry, it did not grieve, it merely just did not understand. She stayed by her child's side, protecting the infant from harm, but the CCG was too powerful.
They murdered the woman right then and there, but at the time, they knew nothing of the child's past or her father. They took the child. A man named Minko Kimura took the child under his wing, adopting her. She led a normal life, not knowing of her past...

Kagome's POV
I ran through the empty halls of Kiyomi High School, books in hand. I had slept in! Minko wasn't going to be happy... oh wait, he doesn't need to know! I was lost completely in my thoughts, only to be snapped out of them when I ran straight into an open locker. I fell backwards, landing on my butt.
"Ow." I groaned, rubbing my head. A boy who looked about 16 or 17 peered down at me.
He grabbed my hand and helped me to my feet. I nodded in thanks and headed back down the hallways. I recognised him as Tora's older brother, Akio. I would properly thank him later, but for now, I needed to get to class before I was any later.
~~~
Tora and I sat around the table, silently eating our lunch.
"Kagome!" A girl called. I turned and spotted Hanako, her pastel blue hair flicking with her movement. She ran up to the table and lept onto it, knocking Tora's lunch off. Tora grumbled angrily, leaving her food on the ground for the pigeons. Hanako giggled and slipped into the chair.
"Sorry, Tora." She said guiltily. "I didn't mean to-"
Tora cut Hanako off. "No, it's fine. I wasn't very hungry anyway." Hanako nodded and smiled.
Hanako and Tora are my two best friends. They have always been, from the moment I first met them. We have been friends for years, and I knew that whatever happened, whether a ghoul attacked or someone was there with a gun, they would have my back, and I would always have theirs. I thought to myself.
"Hey, Kagome?" Tora asked, waving her hand in front of my face to get my attention. I snapped back into reality. "Yeah, what is it?" I asked.
"Well, I was wondering if you were free tonight, to hang out." Tora answered.
"Oh, yeah. I am free." Tora smiled and nodded.
Tora turned to Hanako. "You can come, Hanako." Hanako nodded and bounced off her chair. She had spotted a little white dove in a tree. She tried to catch it, but it flew away.
"Awww, damn." She said, sitting back down on the chair. I laughed and pointed at her shirt. The dove had left a little wet treat on her shoulder.
"No!" Hanako tried to wash it off with water, but it remained. Tora cracked a short smile and ruffled Hanako's hair.
I gripped the hilt of my quinque. The large blade glistening in the low light. It was almost twice my size, but I 'wielded it well', as Minko had said.
My comrade and I had been 'assigned' to terminate the ghoul known as Vicious, which just so happened to be standing directly in front of us. Why they needed 2 ghoul investigators to take down one S rated ghoul, I don't know. I could take it down myself easily, but the CCG didn't want to take risks with the increase in ghouls numbers. We had to fight either in pairs or groups, never alone...
The ghoul wore a mask that was blood red in the shape of a monkey. His kagune was somewhat like a scorpions tail.
"Bikaku, S ranked. Codename, Vicious." Kazz said. He summoned his own kagune;
His bikaku kagune whipped around, his grey and black eye glowing in the darkness.
"Ah, so you are a quinx then?" Vicious hissed. Kazz didn't reply. I charged, as did Kazz. Kazz and Vicious' kagune's collided. I took that as my chance to strike, slicing Vicious' kagune clean off. He howled in pain. I nodded towards Kazz, and we attacked. Kazz struck Vicious in the chest and I swung my quinque in a large arch above my head. I brought the blade down. It sliced Vicious' head clean off. We pulled off a pretty good synchronized attack almost everytime. We were considered very powerful, I mean, who can defeat a freaking S rank ghoul under 10 minutes? We can!
"Awww, we didn't even get to the fun part yet!" I complained. I picked up Vicious' bloody head and held it next to my own.
"Watchya' think?" I asked. Kazz smiled.
"We should be heading back." He answered, his kagune returning. I nodded and we headed off, back to headquarters. I took the mask of Vicious with me, you never know when you could want a monkey mask, am I right?
Dammit! I forgot that I was going to hang out with Tora and Hanako tonight. Hopefully, they would understand that a job came up...
Do I even really need to say anything? Nope... ok.
