Hanako's POV
"You mean, you saved her?" I questioned. Tora sipped at her coffee, avoiding my eye contact. Last night, she had gotten home late and was covered in blood.
"It's not my own." She had advised. I was slightly worried about her, but she was powerful and could protect herself, I was sure of it. She had told me that our friend, Kagome had been in danger, so she went to go save her. It was a fair reason, but what if Kagome had seen? Would she have been forced to kill her?
"Hey, stop worrying," Tora said quietly. "it won't be any good for your upcoming exams." I groaned, turning away from her in my chair. I hate exams, and I had to balance survival with school work.
Aiko walked up to me, holding a newspaper in his hand. He passed me and slapped the paper on the table, fuming. I glanced down at the paper and realised why.
"Ghoul vs Ghoul," I muttered aloud. The paper was an article about the events that had happened last night. It showed the covered body of the ghoul Tora had butchered last night. Tora was about to say something when the bell rang. I shot up onto my feet to greet the newcomer. Ever since the Altair company took me in, I had become a sort of waitress.
"Good afternoon!" I said joyfully, eyeing the customer with caution. He wore a fancy grey suit and tie with a small hat that covered the majority of his face. Following closely behind him was Kagome. She was looking completely sleep deprived, yet she still forced a smile. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Tora glaring at Kagome as if to wipe her memories of the previous night. She swept the paper off the table and into her lap.
The man glanced down at me, a smile growing on his face.
"Good morning child." He answered, ruffling my hair. "I've heard much about you from Kagome." He pointed towards the bored shorty who was balancing on the heels of her feet. I remembered that the old man was Kagome's 'stepdad,' Minako Kimura. They had little resemblance, except for the white hair. I smiled and showed the man and Kagome to a table before returning to my coffee. Tora kept glancing at Kagome and Minako, but she was never caught. They were both speaking in hushed, serious tones, which was surprising considering that Kagome was not the serious type. After a long while, Kagome finally stood up.
"Hey, er, guys, we were wondering if you could help out with this investigation."

Kagome's POV
"What do you mean you're letting civilians in on this investigation?" Kazz snapped, his fist clenched. I flinched, even though I was standing behind Minako. Minako smiled slyly, tipping his hat towards Kazz before leaving. I was left alone in the room with Kazz, who was most likely to punch me in the face if I didn't. His face was red from anger. I recalled why he had been so angry.
A few months ago, Kazz and his original team were slaughtered in an investigation involving many civilians. The civilians survived, but Kazz's team didn't. He blamed himself for the loss of lives and ever since then, he had never been the same. I walked up to him, afraid that he might punch me in the face, but he didn't. I touched his shoulder lightly. He looked at me, confused and angry, his face deep shade of red.
"We've already organised it, it's happening tomorrow." Kazz looked stunned, his eyes full of fear and hatred. I gripped his shoulder tighter, making him flinch.
"I will make sure you nothing happens to me," I answered quietly. Kazz looked slightly relaxed at my remark, his shoulders loosening slightly.
"Alright," He started "let's get this over with."

The next day, we made our way to Altair. We walked inside, the smell of coffee was almost overpowering. Tora and Hanako were both sitting at a table, deep in conversation. I snapped my fingers and caught both of their attention. Hanako got up to greet me as Tora went off to gather their equipment.
"Hi, Kagome!" Hanako said before pausing and turning towards Kazz, her face full of confusion and curiosity. Kazz peered down at her, hovering his hand over her head.
"So, you're Hanako?" Kazz questioned. Hanako nodded vigorously before heading off to help Tora, leaving Kazz and me alone. I slapped Kazz on the back, making him flinch. He glared at me, his eyes piercing into my soul.
"Thanks," I said. Kazz looked shocked, staring directly at me. Hanako looked at Kazz in awe, as if he was some sort of godly being. Tora, on the other hand, didn't seem to like him. She was slumped against the chair, glaring angrily at Kazz. Thankfully, Aiko walked in carrying four cups of coffee. He glanced at me before handing us the coffees.
"Thanks," I said, sipping on the bitter drink. He smiled before sitting down next to me, placing the coffee trey on the table.
"So, when are you guys going?" He asked, meanwhile, Kazz glared at him. I couldn't tell whether it was out of jealousy or anger. I rolled my eyes, resting my face on my hand.
"We're going now." Kazz hissed, grabbing my wrist and forcing me to my feet. I reached out and grabbed my coffee, mistakenly grabbing the lid which popped open, spilling everywhere.
"Ehhh, sorry," I said, looking guiltily towards Aiko. He smiled and nodded, mouthing something before I was out of the door.

"You don't have to be so rude," I muttered. Kazz stopped abruptly, turning around. He shoved me against the wall, pinning me in place. I may have squeaked, but I may not have. We don't need to search in on it.
"I'm not rude." He snapped, pressing against my windpipe before stepping back. I coughed, grabbing at my throat and doubling over.
"Are you ok?" Tora asked coldly. She gave Kazz a warning glare before helping me out. Hanako looked at Kazz with fear before running past him. I figured that Kazz seemed to not like my friends. (Wow, I deserve an award for my detective-ness). Did he sense something I didn't?
"Whatever, let's just go." Kazz muttered before heading down the street. We had no choice but to follow, which of course, we did.
