« INTERLUDE: plan b »
His katana and hands were stained with blood and when he wiped his hand across his face, he smeared the dark liquid all over his chin. It dripped down his face and onto the floor as he stepped over the lifeless bodies in front of him. Madam Lilith clapped for him, as he slowly got down on one knee in front of her. She threw back the hood of her deep purple cloak and smiled down at her protege.
"You are pleased mother?" He asked in an almost bored tone.
"Very, my son." She replied, surveying the room of all of her former students. Today was graduation day and only Azrael would be moving on to the next phase of life in the Council of Shadows. "I knew it would be you to triumph this day."
"Thank you mother." Azrael said, head still bowed low.
"Rise my son, you have now secured your place in the Council of Shadows." Azrael rose slowly, wiping the blood off his katana and onto his dark clothing.
"What is my first assignment under the Council?" Azrael said. Madam Lilith smiled.
"I'm glad you asked my son. The Council has a very important mission for you."
"Whatever the Council asks of me, I will do." Azrael said. Madam Lilith smiled.
"I'm glad to hear that my son, very glad." Madam Lilith touched the side of his face lightly, a gesture that before would have scared young Azrael but he had long since stopped being scared of her, of anything really. "I need you to look after our little shadow child."
"Of course. Her safety is of great importance to the Council." Madam Lilith smiled and dropped her hand. She looked over the blood soaked floor and bodies and carefully stepped around everything, heading back to the exit. The two guards standing watch nodded as Madam Lilith and Azrael approached.
"It is not her safety that concerns me." Madam Lilith said. "Recently she has fallen into some... Good company. The Council is worried this might influence her to stray away from her darkest desires."
"I will kill these people. I will do it for the Council." Madam Lilith laughed as they exited the concrete room and began to walk down the long hallway. It was covered in ancient carvings of death, destruction, mayhem. In the center of it all was their great and glorious leader. Malum.
"The Council doesn't want you to kill them, not yet. They may be of use to us and our purpose." Azrael nodded. "Our job for you is much simpler. We just need you to watch her. We will contact you with further instructions."
"It will be done Madame Lilith." She nodded.
"When the time comes for the ceremony, we need you to watch over us. Make sure that it is completed my son." Madame Lilith said, continuing to lead Azrael down the hallway.
"It will be done."
"If somebody get's in our way. If somebody tries to stop us. You will kill them. No hesitation my son. This is very important."
"I understand."
"And finally, Azrael." Madam Lilith said, pausing before the large, red oak door. "If our shadow child does not perform her duties. If she fails us. You must kill her."
"It shall be done mother." Madam Lilith smiled.
"Good."
