The first thing I noted was how huge the office was. My eyes looked around, taking in its grey and black interior before landing on the middle aged woman with thick blacked rimmed glasses who seemed to have a permanent scowl on her face as she threw an impatient look at me with her blue eyes, her red painted lips in a straight line.
I walked to the front of the chair and waited for her to tell me to seat before I sat down on the comfortable black leather chair.
Her eyes lit up with slight amusement which quickly disappeared and I thought I had hallucinated it.
She coughed before she began, "Miss Lanji. I've looked at your resume and am impressed at how much you have achieved in such a short time. However what makes you think you can handle this job?" She asked in a soft yet hard feminine voice. Her voice made her seem wise and business like yet it made you want to be comfortable around her.
"Well... Am always up for a challenge really. And I love children. Taking care of children isn't exactly a hard task for me, especially since they always seem to like me."I replied as best as I could without stammering and revealing how nervous I was.
"My children are special however. And I don't mean the good kind." Said a deep manly raspy voice that I hadn't noticed was in the room and I turned to look at its owner.
My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when they landed on the tall, well built man with midnight black hair that had been shaved off in a fawhawk that had been slicked back and combed stylishly, familiar beautiful green eyes that I had seen on the two children except his held no emotion. He was devilishly handsome with a slightly tan skin and a sexy stubble that made him look ten times hotter and I clenched my legs tight when I felt my heat beat with to excitement that made me scowl at my body's reaction towards him.
He leaned against another set of double doors that I hadn't noticed on the right side of the room, his arms crossed across his broad muscled chest that was covered by a white dress shirt and I was tempted to take it off and I internally scolded myself for where my thoughts were heading. My eyes continued taking the man in, noting that his long legs were covered by black dress pants that had been paired by shiny black dress shoes.
When my eyes went back to his face and clashed with his eyes which were filled with disdain though a knowing smirk was present on his sexy pink lips, I narrowed my eyes at him, my brain instantly setting off the warning alarm. He might he handsome but he was definitely danger, something I had vowed to never tangle with again.
The woman who was still seated in the huge office chair behind the huge mahogany desk cleared her throat and I realized they were still waiting for me to answer.
Blushing slightly, I replied, "No challenge is hard for me to tackle. In fact I find it refreshing. "So my children are a challenge?" The man asked again as he walked to the other side of the desk and leaned against the wall next to the huge window and although I didn't want to assume, my gut told me he was Alexander Rodriguez.
"No sir, I merely indirectly stated that they won't be a problem for me. I've handled worse and I don't think they could be worse from the kids I've taken care off in the past." I said looking at him directly in the eye which seemed to both annoy and excite him, if the look in his eyes were anything to go by.
"Forgive me but I don't think you can." He said, his tone anything but sincere and felt like he was teasing my capabilities.
"In fact I have a feeling that you are all talk and that you wouldn't be able to last a day with them." He added, with a smirk that was beginning to annoy the shit out of me.
"And may I ask why you think so?" I asked in a challenging tone which was bad since I was coming to them for a job.
"Well first of all you look way younger than you describe on your cv, two the way you're dressed just shows how unprepared you were for this job."
The woman meant to conduct the interview had now leaned back in the seat enjoying our banter and she probably already knew that I wasn't going to get the job.
My body instantly boiled with anger that the jerkface had judged me even before he knew me and I glared at him before opening my damned mouth.
"With all due respect sir... "I began, saying the sir with disdain.
"I may look young but that's plain biology as its in my genes and I can't do anything about it. As for my attire, I didn't know that my clothes were the ones going to take care of your children after all, I had been taught to never judge a book by its cover, which you clearly weren't taught. Id have you know that my clothing has never been a problem with how I do my job but if you prefer I dress up like a desperate bimbo with tight revealing shirts and short skirts then am sorry for wasting both our time because I won't change my appearance to suit your needs. Now if you'll please excuse me, I'll leave you to go back your business."I said standing up, having already had enough of the jerk. I was proud and I would rather sit in a room filled with snakes, scorpions and spiders than let some arrogant asshole step over me.
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity and a chance to fight for this position though,"I said, smiling at the woman who now gazed at me with proud look and I thought I saw her smile back at me before I shut the door behind me.
"You look pissed." I was startled by Gina's voice and I was shocked to find her still seated in the love seat we had been previously occupying.
"What are you still doing here?" I asked her instead.
"Waiting for you so we could share an uber dah..Now what's got your panties in a twist missy."She said standing up. I shrugged off her comment about wanting to share an uber and answered, "I got the lucky chance of meeting the owner." I said rolling my eyes as we walked down the hallway, more like Gina was dragging me as I followed her. I was momentarily shocked that she could remember the path to the entrance hall but then I remembered that she had managed to impress me by how intelligent she actually was.
"Oh! Now I understand. Am sorry it didn't go as planned though. Am sure you didn't do that bad though, right?" She asked and when she noted my silence she turned to look at me, my face giving her the answer she was looking for.
"That bad? Wow! He must be worse than I read on the tabloids then. Anyway, am sure a cup of coffee will make you all better in no time. Am buying. "She said as she took out her phone and requested an uber.
"Actually chicken would be good right about now."I replied.
She put her arm around my shoulder, our same height making it easier for her to do so.
"Why ain't we walking down to meet the uber?" I asked puzzled.
"What do you mean walk down?"She asked me puzzled.
"Well weren't you dropped off at the gate?" I asked.
"Nope. My uber came all the way here."She said.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me."I cussed out loud and she looked at me questioningly.
"I'll tell you later."I said just as an uber rolled up the drive way and stopped in front of us.
We got in and soon after the driver drove off, my body suddenly feeling empty as we got further away from the mansion but I shrugged off the feeling, dwelling more on my anger towards Arrogant ass, my last thought wishing that I never got to see him again.

Alex's POV...

I stood there shocked, my gaze still at the door that the crazy spitfire had just walked out from, my body buzzing with different kinds of emotions, most prominent ones being lust and anger.

Normally I was the type of man that had prided himself with having an astounding amount of self control.
But for some reason, when my eyes landed on the chocolate beauty, all the control I had worked so hard to try and maintain seemed to slip. And I did not like that. Not one bit.
"I don't like her." I said out loud after a couple of minutes of silence passed between me and Valarie.

"The argument and tension was enough to show me that you both don't like each other. However am curious to know why you don't like her?" She asked.
I walked to the other side of my home office and dropped my body onto the black couch, my feet resting over the edge.
"Well she just doesn't seem right for the job." I said.
"Why? Because of the reasons you stated or is it because she stood up to you?" Asked Valarie and I could tell from her tone that she had a smug look on her face.

She knew me well. The woman could read right through me and that's what made her the perfect PA. She was one of the few people who knew me and had been a part of my life even before my children were born. They've seen me at my best and worst which was why I trusted them with every part of my being.

After my wife passed, I had become a shell of a man. I rarely smiled or made jokes. Much less even keep a decent conversation with people. I liked my solitude and I wanted it to stay that way for a long time. And that chocolate beauty who I was yet to know her name, not that I would ever have to use it, threatened my peace.

"The reasons o stated were valid even you know that." I replied instead.
"And her arguments were valid too." She said with a chuckle though I found nothing amusing about this situation.
"So you like her?" I asked although I already knew the answer.
"She is a breath of fresh air. And she ticks every single box in your requirements. I think we should give her a chance." She answered.
"I don't like this, or her, but I know you'll go right ahead and give her the job nonetheless." I replied, feeling tired already.
"I'll give her a call and let her know of the news." She said getting up and walking out of my office, leaving me to my thoughts.

My eyes closed, I stayed there, my mind full of images of the short woman who despite being far from my normal type of woman, had made me feel things I had thought had died when Elizabeth died.
