~×~
The sunlight shined through the long back window of Jack's cabin. He slowly opened his eyes and looked to his left. Confused, he sat up as he saw a woman sleeping in his chair, with her hat covering her face. He looked at her hair flowing down her shoulders and knew it was a woman, but not specifically who.
Jack got out of his bed and walked over to the table, taking his sword.
The sound of Jack's sword was enough to awake her. She didn't look like any of the other women in Tortuga.
"You've got some nerve coming into the captain's cabin, mate." He pointed the sword towards the lad in a threatening tone.
Elizabeth quickly kicked him between the legs, which caused Jack to fall on his knees and drop his sword. She took his pistol from the table and pointed it on his forehead, slowly running the barrel down his face, pointing it under his chin.
Jack gulped nervously while holding himself and trying to relieve the pain. He watched the mysterious woman let out a smirk.
She smiled and Jack noticed that there was a familiar compass hanging on the woman's belt. "Greetings, Captain Sparrow." Elizabeth pulled her hat back on top of her head to reveal her identity. He stumbled up to his feet again and stood with his unbalanced posture.
"Strange to see you here after your marriage." Jack studied her clothes.
Elizabeth sighed "I ran away before my marriage with Will."
"Is that so?" He asked as she ripped his compass off her belt.
"This led me to you..." She handed his compass and Jack held it back in his hands.
"Did it help you in any way?" He rubbed his tumb over the top of the compass.
She looked towards the table and placed his pistol back on the table. "No, it has only made things worse. I don't know what to do anymore...if I should go back and marry Will, or listen to the compass."
He looked down at himself, slightly embarrassed that he didn't have anything over his torso. He quickly put his clothes on again. He looked back to Elizabeth who was full of uncertainty and confusion.
Jack walked over to her, "Love, it seems to me that you are troubled." He put his arm around her shoulder. Accepting his, embrace Elizabeth wrapped her arms around Jack's body, seemingly more comfortable.
"Jack, I don't know what to do... I gave up everything. Will and my father are worried about me now, and if he knew I ran away for a pirate, they would be immensely disappointed."
"Knowing that you ran away from your marriage would make your father irritated, but I'm sure he wouldn't hate you, savvy?" He thought back to his own childhood but quickly shook those thoughts away.
A tear managed to run down Elizabeth's face. Wiping the stray tear away, she detached herself from Jack.
"Tell me what happened." Jack said quietly and sat down with her on the side of his bed.
She nodded and told him what happened before running away to Tortuga.
Even though Jack was a little disappointed in not hearing anything about him for the reason she ran away, he still listened to her intently. After she was finished he gazed into her eyes. "I see..."
"I feel lost and ridiculous for asking you to help me..." Elizabeth said looking at his dark eyes staring into her. She looked down at his belt which had the compass tied onto it. "Your note is what took me away from my wedding, along with your compass. You wrote to me that you wouldn't make it to my wedding, but you seem to be docked in Tortuga to enjoy yourself. Why is that?"
Jack wasn't ready for that type of question. He straightened his posture. Not only was Jones out to get him, he never wanted to reveal his true emotions to anyone. He always kept a mask on, not letting himself look as if he is soft. Jack always showed his tougher and witty side of him, along with cleverness. This time, he couldn't think of anything to cover up his true feelings, but he then came up with something that will not reveal everything to her.
"You see, when I left Port Royal I started to do some pirating again..." He looked at his dirty hands and fondled with the rings around his fingers. "I didn't want to see a beautiful lass like you be married to Will." He looked up to her and couldn't hide himself anymore. "I kept thinking about the very little times we spent together 1 year ago, I felt as if I needed to be around you more. That's when I discovered me distaste for Will."
He admitted it, he cared about her. He realized that it was a mistake telling Elizabeth what he really feels, and he knows he did something wrong. This made Elizabeth's heart sink knowing that he cared for her and how he called her a friend, even though he doesn't really refer to anyone as a close friend other than Gibbs.
"Jack...you won't loose a close friend like me. I have thought about the little times we spent together too, and how I always wanted to be on adventures or actually meet a pirate." Elizabeth looked to him and gave a slight smile.
He nodded and gave a sweet smile as if he was saying thank you.
They looked at each other for a few seconds until Jack got up. "I'm sorry to ask you, dear, but will you be in me cabin for the rest of your stay?"
Elizabeth quickly stood up again, she was too lost in emotions to realize that she was invading his privacy. "No it's fine, I will sleep below deck with the crew."
Jack smiled and chuckled "You will be much safer up here, you can sleep in me bed. I will find somewhere else to sleep."
Even though she didn't want to accept the offer, she nodded, not wanting him to give up anything more. One of his trademark smirks appeared on his lips and he walked outside.
Only one thing kept going into Elizabeth's mind...he cared for her. But does she think the same for him?
