With the others out in the woods, I follow the unique scent I caught in the house. It leads me into the dark beneath the house. Keeping an eye out for traps but finding none as I go, this is simply an escape tunnel. I am curious about the owner of this home, why is he helping the girl? Why does he have what appears to be a self-constructed escape tunnel? Walking along the tunnel my thoughts turn to my brother, what is he thinking right now? Is he aware of what he is going through right now or has his mind slipped away into madness? How do I get him free? How exactly do I use the girl against the Demon Lord? How do I make this work?

My thoughts are interrupted when my nose picks up a stronger scent, blood. Followed by the sounds of fighting, grunting, and whimpering. I hear one of the demons talking and slowly walk out to find a human male unconscious and a tiny girl and a huge dog backed against a tree by two demon halfbreeds. The size difference between the girl and the dog is quite laughable. She could probably ride the thing if it was so inclined. I take in the scene and after some rapid thinking, come to one conclusion.

These demons must die. My blood heats with anger as I hear the words this scum is terrifying the girl with. He was sent to retrieve the girl, not abuse or terrify her. This is why you never send untrained demons to catch the prey. They want to play with it too much, and then come dinner time there is nothing but blood and piss.  Completely uncivilized vermin.

Silently I walk up behind the oblivious scum and with a swift sideways lunge I take off both their heads with only the twang of my blade through the air and a hiss of an exclamation as a witness to their beheading. Wiping off my blade and returning it to its sheath, I turn toward the two sets of eyes that are now pinned on my being.

When I set eyes on the dog a sense of 'otherness' filters towards me from him. So not a simple guard dog then. I test his aura and see he is also not a shifter, strangely I can not tell what he is, despite his canine shape. I will have to watch him carefully should he have some surprises hidden under that furry coat. Or I could kill it now, always an option I suppose. I really should hurry this along, more half-bloods will come along shortly and catch the smell of their brethren blood. I'm good enough to kill them all and survive but I would rather not expend the energy at this moment.

The girl is terrified and frozen as the blood of the halfbreeds puddles towards her. She watches it with wide eyes and when the huge Dog sidesteps it she automatically follows him. Then catches sight of the man and exclaims, ignoring me completely she bolts over to the unconscious human, keeping the dog between us. Kneeling she hovers over him, her hands fluttering up and down his torso. Turning towards me, she eyes me with a gaze filled with both terror and hope. An odd combination but I guess her situation does call for both at this moment.

Without a word, I walk towards the three of them, Ignoring the dog as he growls in the back of his throat. He bunches his muscles as if to jump at me but the girl places a hand on him and his muscles release. I stand above them and look the human male over, he is cut up and bruised but nothing too bad, I am surprised by the small spurt of respect towards this male. He managed to combat a halfbreed who is much stronger than him and came away with little injury overall. I suspect the spreading bruise on his temple is what has caused his escape from consciousness.

For reasons I do not dig into I decided to take both the male and the dog with the girl. Figuring having them both will keep her calm and if not then I have the leverage to force her to obey. Decision made I place a hand on the male and hold my hand out to the girl.

"Take my hand and hold onto the mutt, we need to get out of here before any more come".

The girl looks me over and down to the human, opens her mouth to say something, and then slams it shut at the sounds of movement coming towards us. Hesitantly she takes my hand, just as we hear a couple of demons calling out to their brethren. Her palm is shaking and cold and a slight pain hits my chest. Ignoring the strange feeling I trace us out of the woods and into one of my many hideouts. Let the games begin false King, smirking into the darkness that devours us as we trace.
