"I'm gay." I told my friend, Denis, last year. "You're probably just confused. With enough prayer, you can stay on the right path that God has for you." That's how most of our conversations went everytime after that day I talked to him. He was russian and from a very strict religious home, well at least that's what someone I know said. I was a junior now at Central High in Evansville, which I may add, is the biggest homophobic place on the Earth. It's also religious too, (which nothing is wrong with that considering I was too). Once, I  read that they use to charge you $3 dollars everytime you said a curse word. The way it's now today, those people would've been rich! Anyway, I was at lunch just on my cellphone talking to him on Facebook when the bell rung so I turned it off and walked out. Along the way, I couldn't help but think about him. I secretly liked him and  I just know he likes me back. You're probably thinking, "You can't force someone straight to like someone gay" but you can help them realize who they really are, which was my intent for him. Freshman year was when we met. I had art class with him and the teacher told us to get art books for our tables (2 long tables with about 6 people on each side). Before I could get up, he handed me a book. "T-thank you..." I said to him. He smiled and said, "You're welcome." I then looked around and noticed that he didn't get anybody else a book. It made me feel special. Right in that spot, that second, that minute, that hour, that day....I knew I found something special.

We proceded to have art again the following semester. Although this time, we sat farther away from each. But that didn't stop our communication. When we did self portraits, we had mirrors in front of us and whenever I looked at him in his mirror. He would notice me and smile. Same with him. I remember one day I tested to see if he was gay. "Hey Denis, do you want a girlfriend?" "No." "Are you gonna live with a girl when you get older?" "Nah.." "Then who are you going to live with?" He looked at me and did an assuring smile that made me think he wanted to live with me. Haha, we were only freshmen, we had a long road ahead of us.
